Oh it gets better. The President was at a prayer service that was supposed to be a vigil for the victims. He turned around and politicized it with a speech vowing to do "all in his power to prevent tragedies like this from happening". Pretty words considering this bit of recent budgetary history... www.washingtonguardian.com/washingtons-school-security-failureI sincerely apologize for this post, but I couldn't stay silent on this bit of extreme hypocrisy. Don't feel bad. I've already had some anti gun nitwit on the Escapist mistake me for an American because I bitched about assholes like Micheal Moore trying to politicize it. apparently calling Moore a hypocrite automatically makes me American. Can I get my green card now? User profiles there have a slot for nationality. it's easy enough to check. Then he linked some article about Obama whining about assault rifles. Funny, I don't think the shooter was using assault rifles.

Funny, I don't think the shooter was using assault rifles. Depends on the reporting what version you get. Funnily enough, that asshole in Oregon who had an "assault" rifle (more like a semi-auto that just looks like a military weapon) was confronted by an average Joe who was legally carrying a pistol. Shooter then decides to off himself instead of keep shooting bystanders. www.kgw.com/news/Clackamas-man-armed-confronts-mall-shooter-183593571.htmlOh, and you should see all the people clamoring for the next nut job to go on a killing spree at various NRA meeting places. A couple things. First, there's a reason why nut jobs don't go to places like an NRA get together: something about a shit load of armed people in one place who will very likely drop his ass if he tried. Second, I'm pretty sure if this kind of shit were to be posted against almost any other group, they'd be up on hate crime charges or some shit...

My point is that these otherwise "peaceful" people are calling for the deaths of those of us who legally own guns even though we had little if anything to do with the killings. My latest counter to the "ban guns because of a small group of assholes" bit is that I'll agree once the Bible and Koran get the same treatment. After all, religious nuts kill more people than random whack jobs with semi automatic carbines.

I don't recall seeing any nasty comments calling for the deaths of gun enthusiasts... and wasn't the shooter's mother a collector? Nothing against gun enthusiasts at all, from what I've seen; and anyway, whether people legally owned guns or not - a crazy violent person who is hell-bent on murder will find a way to satisfy his psychotic urges - with or without guns.
So as I said before - banning all guns just because a few people misuse them is counter-productive and silly.
It would be better to work on measures to increase security and be prepared (sad to say) for violent attacks, because they will happen, gun or no gun.
And get help for mentally unstable people before they go nuts and kill other people.
But maybe that's just my wishful thinking.

Lily, that image I put in a post on this page shows a twitter feed calling for the next person who goes crazy to attack groups like the NRA (among others). Now imagine if someone were to call for the next crazy to attack the NAACP. The backlash would be immense.

I don't think the NRA should be attacked by this and although I have my personal opinion on the gun thing I think the real problem in all these shooting is the Mental Health system and the joke that it has become... Can we all wish for a better system for christmas... Although I think we would be disappointed

I actually read some editorials saying that nearly every one of these shooters is on some sort of anti-depressant that has the possible side effect of increasing suicidal tendencies. Add in that the only difference between suicide and homicide is the target (and that these shooters also kill themselves anyways), I'm thinking there's a not so innocuous link between these psychotropic drugs and the killings.

Hugely unlikely.
Depression increases suicidal tendancies, not anti-depressants' side effects.

Hugely unlikely. Depression increases suicidal tendancies, not anti-depressants' side effects. Only partially correct Buch. Studies have shown that when some types of anti-depressants are used the statistics of suicides are doubled. The number is still small relatively speaking but significant. This ties closely in to what Spiritwolf was saying though. The prescriptions are not so much the problem but the lack of apparent oversight. Let's face it, whatever the apparent benefits of using anti-depressants and I know there are some having been acquainted with folks in the field there are risks too. These things change brain chemistry. Don't let any health professional tell you that they understand the brain enough to do that without some risk. If they do they are full of shit. So many of these drugs have been pulled for dangerous side effects. The makers of Paxil are, last I heard under a class action lawsuit for pushing what amounted to being a toxin without fully testing it first. They are helpful but far from risk free.

For gods sake Buch, just this once, Wiki it. For me, please? the only ones who say they are risk free are the makers. I don't trust them any farther than I can throw them. the makers of Paxil claimed that it wasn't habit forming. It has some of the stronger withdrawal symptoms of any anti-depressant documented. They were fined 3 billion dollars just this year for sating that it was safe for kids.
I swear to God and Beelezebub both that I am not talking out of my ass here.
