I'd actually love to see these films bomb for the sheer audacity of this cash grab. There...simply...is...not...enough...story...to fill three three hour long movies. Or 2 hour long movies. Maybe 3 1.5 hour long movies but even that is pushing it.
I have not yet decided my stance on this. But I am not impressed.

First Martin Freeman, then LOTR cameos, now this. I'm very concerned. And yeah I'd like to see it bomb as punishment too.
I feel like movies are trying to evolve into episodic serials, like Flash Gordon or Commander Cody or whatever. The Hobbit, episode 12, Bilbo eats elevensies.

Jeremy Jahs thinks they might add stuff like the Similarion in there.

Martin Freeman is awesome. And perfect for the part of Bilbo.
Suddenly announcing a third film, like, months before the first one releases seems like a dick move, though.

I don't really have anything new to add to this that hasn't already been said, but...why? Why is this necessary?

No idea. But if they do add "The Silmarillion" in there that would make a hell of a lot more sense than merely going for the purse strings (since, as it has already been pointed out, there's no need for a trilogy at all).

Sorry Gorv, I already said, I can't watch him. He's too twitchy. Readers Digest condensed version please?

The Silmarillion is about the same length as The Hobbit. Sooo Jackson's way of being all inclusive is to smush a really in-cohesive narrative from the Silmarillion into The Hobbit in three movies? I'll believe it when I see it. And by that I mean I have not decided yet if I will bother.

I'm just wondering what he will put in there? When I think of a joyful adventure of treasure with thirtteen of your best friends and your mentor, i dont recall a incestious marriage where in the end everybody dies because an evil dwarf and a dragon fucked them over. Or some creepy old guy goes off to rape a water spirit.

I can't imagine how a Peter Jackson thinks the plot of a stretched-out point-to-point adventure novel deserves the same amount of screen-time as the six books that make up The Lord of the Rings.
