Poodo! Ahhhhj.... A PIQUE-AY! My brother and I used to have entire conversations in 'Extremely Repetitive Huttese'. xD LOL you guys XD Thanks for the tips! Another hour and a half this evening. Made it to the Undercity, but got massacred by rakghouls; I'll have to reload from an earlier point in my next session. Responded to Carth's 'hey, beautiful' with something along the lines of 'WTF, man?!' I don't know if that would ruin the option of a romance later. If it does, well tough. I was scratching my head at the whole 'I don't trust you' conversation. It seems to me that if somebody doesn't trust you, they don't just casually announce it - that would put you on your guard, right? Bad writing or is it just a 'fix me!' call? Briefly met Mission and her Wookie friend. I assume those are recruitable later? All in all, who are your favourite companions? Also, I think that Hutts are cute. They're huge slimeballs, but kinda cute. I have the feeling they're thrusting out their tongues and roll their eyes when I'm not looking.

Carth's romance is really good, I think! His initial come-ons are pretty... uh, sexist, but you are able to tell him so! And he shows you a much nicer side afterwards! By the way romances are quite hard to persue in KotOR -- there is only one for each gender (there is an extra one which is not fully developed and extremely hard to persue) and you have to constantly talk to them and try not to say the wrong things.
His 'I don't trust you' thing - probably just bad writing, although he never seemed that way to me. Carth is a straight shooter, you know? If he's on a mission with someone he doesn't trust he likes to lay his cards on the table. That said, if you follow his personal quest through, yes you do fix him. xD
All of the companions are pretty amazing.... except Zaalbar and T3-M4 maybe..... Jolee is the king. Wait 'til you meet Jolee. man.

My characters in previous RPGs (NWN/2 etc) would mostly stay single because I found the romance-locking responses too cheesy to pick. :}
Who ARE the available companions at this stage of the game, anyway?

You'll find the companions are very hard to miss. A handful of them can be avoided but most of them will invite themselves.
At this stage you have Carth, and soon Mission and Zaalbar should join you. As you leave the planet then a droid and two more people will come with you as well. Then there are three more on other planets. They're optional but they will make themselves quite obvious and they are all well worth it.
The romances are tied quite tightly into the main plot. I recommend them very highly, especially Carth, but then again I recommend everything in that game.

If you are a male do 9 hehe, get it?) Bastilla? Why...cause it;s Jennifer hale aka Femshep! Meaning, i fell in love with Femshep before it became main stream.

I play a female. Which means I'll probably be quietly lusting for Bastilla while going for Carth? (I first fell in love with Hale as Fall-From-Grace in Planescape: Torment. I consider that romance consummated, though, back when I painted her. <3)

Carth has trust issues in general. he never quite gets over them until very late in the main story. it gets a little worse as certain other story elements expose themselves then gets better.
T3 M4 unfortunately has little personality in this game. That changes a lot in the sequel. The little guy takes a few levels in badass and develops quite a bit of snark.
Zaalbar usually doesn't have much to say but you'll find out why later. jolee is a blast. A lot of Carth's companion dialogue seems to be a lot of him trying to sort shit out in his own head but out loud. there is a bit of hatedom around him as a result but overall I think he is a pretty good character.
I actually was not aware that any of the characters were optional.
interesting.

Yeah, you don't need to bring the guy on Kashyyk, or the other droid, or the Cathar. Many players never even realise that the Cathar is recruitable.

I was lying when I implied you could recruit Calo Nord. And Darth Bandon is pure busta. He just Malak bitch.

Actually considering how different the things with the cathar can go...yeah, good point. I figured the second droid was needed though based on issues it can help with, but then again I guess that only matters if you are speaking with your voice rather than a blaster.

Day 3 playing KoTOR, in which I attempt to play Pazaak with little success and frustrate Carth with moderate success. Teamed up with Mission, and wander further into the sewers in search of her Wookie friend and Bastila. Almost ruined an aspiring Twi'lek dancer's audition by running in circles around her. Saved the day in the end, though. She could have been more thankful. I'm liking this game quite a bit! More so as it progresses.

Ahh, Pazaak. That game's so broken that it almost always boils down to who goes first dictating the winner. Can't remember if the advantage was for the dude going second or to the guy going first, but there you go.

IS there any point in playing pazaak, by the way, or is its sole purpose to turn you into a gambling addict?
