I was waiting for this for months, and then I buy a physical copy of the game a week before it comes out on Steam?

Hopefully you got a good deal on it! Physical copies are nice to have around, just in case.
O.O

Okay guys! I'm reviving this thread because I'm taking the plunge and will start KoTOR, after MANY years of indecisiveness. I like to play spellcasters (adepts in the ME games). But I also love light sabres. Which class should I pick? They all look obscure from a first glance.

Well in KotOR you will start out as a non force user. I like the scout class for that. A nice balance of skill points, Implant perks and combat skill.
As for the Jedi classes...Consular is the "caster" type in the game so would suit you best. They can be a little squishy but are powerful. The power balance seems to favor consulars who follow the dark side because of the penalties attached to using dark side powers as a light side character. the more lightningly abilities are dark side.
The Guardian type is better for more melee centric ability. The light side powers synergize more cleanly with that class in my opinion.
Don't pick Sentinel in the first KotOR. Just...don't.

My favourite subject! Really glad you're going to play it.
Well in the first game you don't get to make that call until later on - at first you pick Soldier (no skills, good at fighting, will help with the lightsabers later on), Scout (middle) or Scoundrel (poor fighting but many skills). Skills are things like computer hacking, lockpicking, persuasion, etc. This has no real effect on spellcasting.
Spellcasting comes in after you leave the first planet and become a Jedi, or immediately in KotOR 2. Here you pick a new class - Jedi Guardian (good at fighting, weak spells, lots of health), Jedi Sentinel (average at both fighting and spells, lots more skill points) and Jedi Consular (weak at fighting and skills, but your spells are more effective and you can learn them more often.)
In the first game, when you get to the Jedi Academy, before you pick this you can ask the masters to explain it, and get a useful bar chart on the Jedi computer in the training room. I recommend playing the first one first since the stroies are very closely linked and the second one may be incomprehensible if you don't know they first one well enough.
Also Guardian gets you a blue lightsaber, Sentinel gives you yellow and Consular green. But you can change this later on.
EDIT: Don't listen to him! Sentinel is good! I usually pick it. Those skills are very handy (especially for the Jedi Mind Trick and repair / hacking) and Sentinel leaves you with no deficit in either swords nor magic. It's very much 'all rounder, plus skills'.
2nd EDIT: I just wrote 'Uncomprehensible'. Go home Buch, you're drunk.

Thank you, Buch! I'm really looking forward to it. I think I'll start off as a Scout... and see how it goes. You've all played the game, but I hope you don't mind me sharing my impressions of it here?

The skills are good. I load up on them as much as possible using the scout class. Aside from them I find them pretty underwhelming. I find that regardless of which one I take there is plenty of force points to go around for casting. But consular and sentinel are far better for casting than the guardian.
I always take sentinel as the starting class in KotOR 2 just for the skills though. But switch to weapon master for the prestige class.
I just prefer to have a specialization for either combat or casting in higher levels than to go middle of the road.I find it makes my life easier.

I love that game like crazy. I'd like to read it. Unless you don't care for it of course in which case I promise to shut up.

Please do Lieden. I might dust off those old disks for a new run as well.
I have got to get Lily to give these games a break. She is convinced that she will dislike them.I'm a little appalled actually.
