Yay! The Reeds have been cast!! And I have to say, I could so see that Diana Rigg playing Olenna Tyrell, The Queen of Thorns... she looks and seems like the perfect Olenna Tyrell...
And Mackenzie Crook is awesome - he played the pirate with the false eye in Pirates of the Caribbean!

Ha. He looks perfect for the scumbag (looks like they cut out his brothers) Cersei hires. And is just me or are they totally prepping for the lesbian side of Daenerys with this Missandei? In the book she was like 12. That woman ain't 12.

Well, they did seriously age-up the characters - I mean, Robb Stark and Jon Snow were 14 in the book, and 18 - 19 in the show, and Sansa was 11 when she was betrothed to Joffrey when the books started, and they made her 13 in the show - and Arya went from 9 in the book to 11 or thereabouts in the show... Rickon went from 3 to 6.
As for Daenerys, in the books, she was only 13. Since it would be very wrong to have a 13-year old girl wedded and bedded on film, they had to age her up - she's probably around 17 in the show. Definately not 13. So, it does make sense to age-up Missandei, seeing as how it would be very awkward (and very illegal) to have a 17 year old Dany doing the deed with a 12 year old girl.
Also, that girl who will be playing Missandei is adorable... I can't wait to see Season 3 with these new cast members!
What does confuse me a wee bit, though, is the time difference between the 5 released books - in A Game of Thrones (Book), Jon Snow and the Stark children are Jon = 14, Robb = 14, Sansa = 11, Arya = 9, Bran = 7 and Rickon = 3; with Daenerys = 13. How many years have passed between "Game of Thrones" to "Dance With Dragons", and how old are the surviving children (Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon, Daenerys) now?

I'd say it's been no more than 2 years. Probably way less.
As for Missandei, Daenerys was more of a mother / rescuer to her, while her other maidservants served other needs. But they killed off 2 of them in season 2 before ever pursuing that angle, so I'm not surprised.

I was confused about the time frame because in one of the later books, I think there was a reference to Sansa being 13... also, in the second book, she has her first 'flowering'... and that usually hits girls around 12 or 13... so unless GRRM is really not knowledgeable about feminine developement... well... who knows?

Sansa was a late bloomer, and as more evidence for the story not being long, she's hasn't been gone from King's landing more than a year.

Personally, i'm suprised that the Blackfish hasnt been cast earlier. He seems quite important in the series.

Sansa was a late bloomer, and as more evidence for the story not being long, she's hasn't been gone from King's landing more than a year. Sansa being a late bloomer would be more evidence for a longer time frame, I think - since a girl's first "flowering" usually hits around 12 or 13, and she had not yet flowered when Cersei questioned her at age 11 in the first book, so she would be late 12 early 13 in the second book... and I think she and Arya and Ned were in King's Landing for a good while before all Hell broke loose... maybe almost a year, or possibly slightly more... since Bran had been comatose for a month or two before he woke up... Also, Jon Snow has been at The Wall and in the lands Beyond the Wall for a long time as well, given that he was at The Wall long enough to get training and become a fully trained Man of the Night's Watch, and then to go ranging with Lord Commander Mormont, and then to join Qhorin Halfhand, and then to 'betray' the Watch and join with Ygritte and the Wildlings, and then to go back to the Wall, and then become the new Lord Commander... that all could not necessarily happen in two years or less, I think... given that travel in those times was not nearly as fast as the vehicular travel we enjoy now with cars and airplanes and the like. Actually, I found a Wiki that indicates that the first five books in total span about 3 years or more... EDIT: Corrected the spelling of Qhorin Halfhand's name... I cannot believe I misspelled that at first; I loved that character...

Ok. That makes sense. And he had been commander for a time when book 5 happened.

Oh, and another thing about characters' ages - Arya Stark is an anomaly of sorts - Book=Arya was 9, TV=Arya was 11 or so, and the actress who plays her is 15... and by the gods, she does NOT look 15 in the show! Movie Makeup can do wonders... lol

Ah. I see your point. But again, Movie Makeup does wonders... she looks rather mature in that pic, but when in costume, she could be made to look younger... as noted by my example of Arya, 11 in the show, actress is 15 or 16...

Okay, I'm a little late to the party, but...Reeds, hurrah! I'm really glad they didn't cut those characters out. I feel like they add a lot - they're not really like any other characters from the books that I can think of.
And Missandei!
