Well the game is now out - in America, anyway. So enjoy! This is a seperate thread, since the old one was getting a bit long anyway. Thoughts, reviews, critical reception, adoration, betrayal? Let's hear about it.

Please don't give me an excuse to get back on THAT soapbox again. *sigh* *steps on soapbox*
Too late.
Still it's a little weird that Eurogamer was easier on it than Gametrailers or IGN who both gave it 9.5/10.
Remember boys and girls, day 1 reviews tend to suck and they are only opinions anyway.
*steps down*

Well I'm enjoying it. Played through the Earth/ Mars intro with my paragon vanguard last night. By gosh he's ugly. I thought he was the male default, but I think I messed with it a little. Loving everything except the bad guys not dying on command.

There's something I would like to ask.
What happens if you play multiplayer along with the campaign? Anything differnt or new I haven't heard yet?

Completing multiplayer maps in a certain section of the galaxy increases your Combat Readiness in that area, which acts like a multiplier for the War Assets you have in that part of the map.

Because I heard it's required to get a decent ending from this: www.gamepolitics.com/2012/03/06/mass-effect-3039s-ending-tied-forced-multiplayer-participationNo spoilers in this one but it will be matter of time when people start cry and spilling in the comments section.

As far as I know, you can double your readiness playing multiplayer (though I think there are ways to raise it in the main game), making it twice as easy to get the "best" ending.

Just let me know what the virdict is once you got everything done including the multiplayer. I would love to play it on day one but now my project is already starting up, I don't have time to play this game atm.

So I put my first five hours into the game! Gonna take a break, do some homework, get a snack and all that. (I'll try and keep things spoiler free until the game finishes launching for everyone.)
+ The visuals so far have been astoundingly good. Way better than ME2 in terms of what you get to explore. (If memory serves me right, that is.)
+ The galaxy really feels like it's descending into chaos. News reports give information about counter-attacks and worlds that the human fleets are abandoning. The Citadel's preparing for refugees and all that.
+ I'm actually interested to see how the game plays without an imported save, because the amount of references to my ME1 and ME2 saves are ridiculous. I don't really want to spoil any, but they're constant and consistently clever. At least, they seem constant.
+ The writing and dialogue has seen a major improvement. It all seems a bit more natural, with only a few instances where certain lines seem "set up".
+ The "new" Normandy is just awesome. It feels familiar and the little easter eggs are really neat.
+ The "Galactic Readiness" system gives a bit more meaning to most of the quests, even the smaller ones - and especially the galaxy map/scanning parts. The "evade the Reapers" mini-game imbues some form of a challenge into the scanning, which is a nice change of pace.
+ Combat feels like it's been improved some.
+ There just feels like there's way more stuff to do. The main quest + side quests + searching for war assets + weapon customization + armor customization + specialized Spectre items. I feel busy, as opposed to ME2, where it felt like I was constantly hitting walls.
+ There have been some hilarious moments so far. Where as the other games seemed unintentionally funny, BioWare seems to have gotten a good sense of humor here. It's refreshing that Joker's not the only one cracking jokes.
+ I take back everything I said about that random dead child from the Reaper invasion part of the demo. The kid actually has some relevance going forward and wasn't just there for a cheap emotional moment.
+ Unless I'm forgetting someone from previous games, I just recently chatted with a gay (not bi) member of the crew. I'm fairly certain that's a first for BioWare there!
+ James Vega is awesome. With the exception of some recurring characters, he's easily my favorite of the newbies so far. (Except for the random Spanish words he's intent on using, and butchers half the time. xD)
- Jessica Chobot's character, Diana Allers, is pretty terrible. The voicework is just... cringe-worthy and she looks like Snooky. She sounds like one of the light switches from Old World Blues, only she's not being intentionally flirtatious; that's just her voice. I could go on; she's the biggest road bump in the game so far for some reason.
- There's a lot of autodialogue, though there's just a lot more dialogue in general. So Shepard feels like he's acting on his own most of the time. You're still able to take people aside and ask questions, but outside the Normandy he's pretty much on autopilot unless an actual decision pops up. And even then you're typically only offered two choices, like in the demo.
Not sure how I feel about it so far. I keep wanting to make decisions, but Shepard and whomever he's talking to will sometimes carry on such long conversations, I feel tempted to put the controller down.
- The game seems very linear so far. You go from Earth to place to place without any options to strike out on your own. It'll probably be 2 - 3 hours before you actually get to explore the galaxy map, and even then your side quests will likely be very, very limited. Though, I just finished another main quest, and I've gotten a decent amount of side quests, but it's almost been six hours since I started.
- The dialogue wheel is pretty annoying. Most of the time you get two dialogue choices, and they seem to boil down to "Amicable" and "Asshole" responses. There's never really any "in between." I'm guessing that's the reason there's so much more dialogue flying around, but still, I usually don't have to look at what I'm selecting most of the time.
But, again, the characters are allowed to converse much, much more, so I'm not sure if that's a con or not - and they also seem to converse with each other a lot more, so that's something.
I don't know. I'm definitely loving this so far. There have been some really crazy moments that put that opening sequence on Earth so shame. Aside from the linearity, which seems reminiscent of KotOR (Taris, Lower City, Undercity, Dantooine) and Mass Effect (Eden Prime, The Citadel) I'm loving this thing. Hoping the endings aren't as bad as I hear, because that would suck.
