It is perfectly possible that the journo / victim exaggerated massively to make the article more interesting. I find that the truth usually lies somewhere in a very dull, understandabe place inbetween two viewpoints when the first reaction is outrage. Outrage sells papers.

Here's a pet hate. Kinda hits close to home for me.
A local restaurant closed it's doors this week. The owners let the lease on their space expire and their workers were left without jobs without so much as a days notice. It was doing fairly well as far as I know so it wasn't a bankruptcy or anything. I had heard these guys were a little skeezy but this is bullshit. I'll give good odds that they will fight tooth and nail to avoid paying severance.
I know and in the past have worked with a few of the folks who worked there. If you're gonna close up shop, man the fuck up and tell your staff. this is a shitty new years present and the very worst time of year to try to find work in food and hospitality.
Oh and how did I find out? 2 Cooks from the restaurant were applying for a job at work.
Oh what I would do to that prick who owned the place if I had him in a room and even a half hour.

Well I haven't posted in a pet hates thread since like 2011 or 2010. Don't know if this is really a pet hate but I ordered a new computer and I hate waiting for it to get here.
Yeah that's the best I got!

I'm not certain what the problem is here. From what I have heard and seen the quality of world news presented by these guys is substantially higher than that given by nearly all North American networks. They are not "terrorist TV" as was said by many in the past but give a solid look at all sides. That's probably what is feared most by the Faux News watching crowd. A quality different perspective.
Honestly, how can we claim to know what is going on in the Middle East when we have no voice originating from that area? It's kinda like trying to manage a trial by judge with only the prosecution or defense being allowed to present evidence. The bias will be there but it will be a two way bias available from more than one source. That can only be an improvement.

I don't know much about Al-Jazeera except that they aired Osama Bin Laden's tapes. It just seemed odd to me that we'll sell our network to the people who helped out Bin Laden, but Glenn Beck is just too much. Maybe there isn't as much irony as I saw there.
Pet Hate: People that speed up to cut me off when I'm trying to merge.

If by "we" you mean the private entity that is Al Gore there is still no problem. That man's politics are a matter of [public knowledge and highly questionable. Airing the Bin Laden tapes is not necessarily "helping" him. It's getting the news out. That man was news the world over. Also he was a monster the US created on it's own. The US did a lot more to help him than Al Jezeera. Training, weapons, funds et al in Afghanistan in the 80s. Play with vipers and you will get bitten.
Merge blockers are assholes who should go to Shepard Book's "special Hell."

I think there's more to it than that, but the US didn't help matters. By we I mean Current TV, 10% of which was Al Gore's.

Privater entity, still no problem. they can sell to Satan himself and it would still be fine with me. It's not state controlled TV so they can sell to whomever they want. By applying a "we" to it you are implying state control. Al gore has had nothing to do with the US government since Bush handed his his head to him in 2000. Let's not muddle the issue as being politics when it is more likely strictly business. By that I mean a platform under which Gore can allow his climate change business to get more press. he has not so much to do with saving the environment as he does with profiting from people thinking he can save it. He can't, he can just profit from people's stupidity in thinking he can.

Gore's actually a pretty strong player behind the scenes in the Democrat Party. He doesn't have any actual power per se, but he's influential as hell.
Now for the pet hate... Uwe Boll.

Now for the pet hate... Uwe Boll. He's crap. 'nough said I'd say I'd be inclined to feed Boll to my raptor, but then Gorvar would try to disembowel me while calling the DPS (Dino Protective Services) regarding the abuse of aforementioned raptor.

Well he gives me indigestion and I have not even eaten him. Imagine what would happen to the poor animal that ate him.
Put another way..."Oh won't someone please think of the raptors."
edit because apparently I'm too drunk to type complete thoughts right now.
