I just thought I'd officially start the annual reboot of the Pet Hates.
I'll go with the way wires seem to tangle themselves and how I don't understand how they do it - and also the way male newsreaers all wear black or grey suits and yet female newsreaders (who presumably are supposed to look pretty rather than serious) just wear whatever the hell they feel like on the day. Put them in suits, damn it. They aren't decoration, they are also newsreaders.

Oh, very much agreed there, Mister Buch - the sad thing is, though, women are expected to work twice as hard as men in order to succeed in male-dominated fields, and also to be pretty eye-candy in a non-eye-candy-ish profession. Newsreading is not modelling. And yet... But, I shan't let this bother me, it is a new year, after all, and hopefully my life will improve now that I've resolved to not let myself get sick or injured like last summer, Service Canada finally got off their arses and paid me what I was due, and I've resolved to make my finances start being less painful from now on... I still have Linders, so all is right with my life as it goes... ;D

Ah, the bitching thread, the 2013 edition. Might as well add mine:
My sleeping patterns have been screwed up, due to the crunch times on my assignment last year (hence that's why I was a bit bitchy around November, because I was staying up till 7, really stress out and someone had to ruffle my feathers at the same time, which not a good combo and bad timing.)
But back to the topic, my pet hate is trying to get my sleeping patterns back to normal again, it's so difficult. I hope it goes back to normal soon, so I can wake in mornings and have more time to do stuff, like going out and play card games.

That's disgusting - what, was he supposed to let them beat him to death? No, I didn't think so... good for him for being able to get out of the situation with his life intact... poor guy...

Even I think that's outrageous. What the hell are Pizza Hut thinking with a policy like that? I hate the lionisation of aggressive action, but to punish self-defence is taking it a hundred steps too far. Also, honestly, 'Sam Swicegood' is one of the coolest names I've ever heard. I need to write a novel where the guy is called Sam Swicegood.

Also I don't want to be a pedant but these aren't really pet hates.... these kinds of things might be better in a more serious thread like 'Stupid People' or 'Something bad happened to me today'.

Iron is right, but this story doesn't violate policy. He grabbed something handy out of the back of his car, not a maintained weapon. It's the equivalent of grabbing a stick off the ground. In addition, 5 juvenile attackers were not going to take the money and run. One adult attacker, sure, maybe even 2. But more than that, and they mean to inflict some damage before collecting their prize.

It's only fair I post this update from Huffington post:
I still say Bull. They're scrambling to cover their tracks, and the paperwork hadn't gone through yet.

This includes single or two attackers. Harder to testify if you're hospitalized with a broken jaw... or worse.

I'm with Iron on this one. It's about litigation. I've heard of a few cases where criminals successfully sued businesses for the consequences of their attempts at robbing them. it disgusts me but the fuckers were successful as often as not. I'm betting that the manager involved did this on his own without even checking Corporate out of fear for his own job.
About the driver's position and hours, the spokesman did not overtly lie. All restaurant work by definition is part time unless you are salaried. Cutting hours does not leave the paper trail that firing does. If hours were cut they can easily come up with "business reasons" why it was done. Especially true at this time of year when food service slows down....a lot.
