Since I'm feeling a bit chatty atm, I'm feeling like talking about the weirdest game you ever played, and I'm talking about psychedelic kind of a way.
On my list, it had to be Katamari. I've picked up the 360 version recently and it feels like you're walking into a hippie's daydream who is high on weed. Bright colourful grahpics, upbeat and wacky soundtrack; and the storyline and objective for the game is insane, it goes like this: Your dad, known as the "King of the Cosmos", hit the tennis ball so hard that he created a gigantic black hole. Fortunately he managed to patched it up but most of the solar system planets were missing during his attempt to patch up the hole. So he orders you to go down to earth and start rolling everything in your sight to recreate the planets. Yes that includes humans too. Also this is the only game I could think of that allows you to run over adults, children and grannies and still keep the K rating.
Now it's your turn, what game is the most trippiest for you?

I hated Beautiful Katamari... *froths at mouth in rage* I don't know about Trippy, but the most twisted game I've ever played is probably Sanitarium. It's almost impossible to explain adequately, so I'll wiki it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanitarium_(videogame)In the flashbacks and delusions mentioned in the link, you play as the main characters little sister who is in fact dead, a comic book character (some crazy centaur/cyclops thing), and an aztec warrior, whilst trying to awaken from your coma so you can tell the world what you discovered about a colleague doctor; namely, that he has been butchering peopple and especially children in a desperate attempt to find a cure for a terrible disease. The game leaves nothing out in terms of gore and sheer visceral grittiness; you'll often come across butchered bodies, mutilated, deformed children and all sorts. Its a pretty hard game to get hold of; if you're interested you might try eBay...

Damn, that is a messed up game. I've heard the name a while back when I was in grade 5 or 6... I saw it somewhere in my old Hyper Mag, a preview or something. Talking about this made me feel more adult now *glowers at the realisation of growing up and getting old*
Anyways, I recalled another game that is kinda similar to Saitarium with the horror atmosphere sense and twisted at the same time. Have you played Eternal Darkness before, Rascarin?

I suspect I'm not as hardcore a gamer as you two, but the craziest game I've played (as well as one of my fondest childhood memories) was 'Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon' on the Nintendo 64. There was a whole series of these but I only ever played this 3D version. You played a little guy who used an extendable smoking pipe as a weapon, his overweight pervy best friend who had his eyes closed all the time, a tiny ninja robot who hit people with his hair and... a woman. There was nothing remotely interesting about her. One day your peaceful town in feudal Japan is besieiged by a pair of musical performers who transform the castle into a European-style castle. Gasp. After you travel the entirity of Japan (you could walk from one end to the other and it took less than half an hour) looking for them they kidnap the whole island of Kyushu with a tractor beam and you must go into space with your giant robot to bring it back and put an end to their European-style musical theatre. Also it had a lot of painfully bad jokes in the dialogue - and a canned laughter track. It's the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever seen. Though sometimes I wondered if they were in on the joke. Also it had some of the catchiest music ever recorded. I still know the words. Here is part of the cutscene before the final boss- www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyTLGdXNBUY&feature=related

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon? That's good one but also, very trippy. Best part it's on the N64... good times. I'm not that a hardcore tbh. I'm more an intellect when it comes to games due to the course I'm currently enrolled in, which requires a more broader mind when it comes to games. Besides, if I'm that hardcore, I wouldn't be sitting here conversing with everyone here, instead I'll be wasting a lot of time playing that mmo while throwing vulgar insults like I did back then

I'm not that a hardcore tbh. I'm more an intellect when it comes to games due to the course I'm currently enrolled in, Oh yeah I didn't think of that. Stil though, games are a wonderful thing to spend your time on. Lately I find time to play them much less often. After I bought KotOR, I went from hardly ever playing to sleeping only a few hours a night so I could get just a few more side-quests done before sleep. In those days I used to dream about KotOR. Really. Yes Mystical Ninja has its own place in my heart. I went back to play it again last year and it was just as I remembered. Ridiculous and confusing and with horrible, horrible jokes and great music.

That's the beauty of Goemon. Now if it was a serious game or they did the translation right, the experience wouldn't be the same. It's a shame nowdays I don't see Konami (The makers behind this game) will make another one this current generation. Don't know about you, but I certainly need another wacky game to cheer me up a bit, especially with the current crop seem to be realistic, gritty and lots, lots, lots of shades of brown.
Speaking of N64 crazy games, have you tried Mischief Makers? That game is just as tacky as Goemon. It's about this robot girl with green hair, strong hands that literally lift heavy stuff and combat knives for leg; has her owner kidnapped by these "canser" aliens and she had to travel through the 2D landscape to rescue her owner. The aliens are fricken freaky to say the least and the bland music and weird translation just had me in stitches as a child.

Yeah what happenned to Konami? They made some of my favourite games when I was younger. I agree - wacky games are wonderful. My favourte is still the old, old arcade game Joust - about knights riding flying ostriches and dodging pterodactyls.
I played Mischief Makers once. It was craaaazy but a great game.

It was release on Gamecube many years ago, developed by Silicon Knights (yes the same developers who made the biggest letdown game Too human). It's about Alexandra, who had to travel to her grandfather's mansion after he committed suicide. She had to investigate her grandfather's death which was linked to an old artifact he held in in possession. This artifact, which traced back the ancient times, has cause a lot of untimely and violent deaths to whoever held the artifact in their possession. Here's the link if you want the full details due to my memory seem to slipped into a wormhole for some reason. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_DarknessAs for Konami, I think either they concentrated on the MGS series, Hiedo Kojima might be their main creative consultant or like all other bloody game companies, they decided to go for a gritty realism complete with a buttload of shades of brown everywhere. I know games are meant to be an artform but still, a little touch to colours or/and wacky concept wouldn't hurt. Just look at Katamari, Okami or Portal. As Yahtzee once put it, "Realism might not be the best way to go in the long run." Sadly I haven't played Joust due the fact most of the games I've played in my childhood were only dated far back as Super Mario Bros on the NES and that's it. I didn't played the older games like the Atari, etc, etc.

Okami? I love that game! My favourite thing was just running around barking and headbutting people... Great, now I'm probably gonna have to go back and play it... That Eternal Darkness looks pretty good. Shame I don't have a Gamecube...

Could try find some sort of emulator on the net for Eternal Darkness. I'm still looking for an emulator for "Conker's Bad Fur Day" atm. Yes, Okami is a brilliant game. Brush stokes interface ftw. That game designer is must be exceptionally creative. I've still have my art book for Okami on the shelf. That reminds me, Psychonaunts! That's a funny, trippy and great game for me. too bad I couldn't finish it due I didn't have time and my PS2 broke . Can't wait for Brutal now.

I don't think I really played any trippy games. I'm trying really hard to think but I don't think I ever played any.... Kind of depressing. The closest thing is RoboTech BattleCry prehaps. You were a transforming robot that trasformed between this Gundam like robot to a jet and and half mech half plane combo where you floated around. There would be missiles and bullets flying everywhere and the story kind of lost me at the end of the game. But thats the closest thing I can think of.

Closest thing I've played was Aliens vs Predator, the Predator levels were scary (I was like 10).
So I quit playing it.

Ah, Alien vs Predator. Yeah it's scary at it's time but for many it's a classic example of a good film to games adaptation but I will leave that discussion for another day before my academic tongue got the better of me. Understandable if you're 10 at the time, you're bound to freak out by the foes in that game. That reminds me about another game, FEAR. God, the ending for the sequel is just... plain disturbing to say the least. As for RoboTech BattleCry. No I haven't heard of it Hodster, it slipped under my radar for some reason. What platform it was released?
