Unfortunately "the greatest Generation" is just about that age these days. So many great people within a short time time. They are all getting old at the same time. Still can't we spread this out a bit more?
I also hope for the continuing popularity of books like Chariots of the Gods? in high school and college logic courses, as object lessons in sloppy thinking. I know of no recent books so riddled with logical and factual errors as the works of von Däniken.

Greg Lake, bassist and vocalist of my favorite Prog Rock band, King Crimson, died today.
Fucking Hell.
I found that out on Facebook - saw a post by Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater, who was expressing his despair over Greg Lake's passing and Jordan posted this video of himself playing "I Believe in Father Christmas", a song by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
I agree that this year of 2016 was a bad year for losing too many good people who will be sorely missed...
Peter Vaughan (Maester Aemon on Game of Thrones) died this week as well, at the age of 93. He was one of my favorite people on Game of Thrones...
Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking; can't we give ourselves one more chance? Why can't we give love that one more chance? 'Cause love's such an old-fashioned word and love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night and love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves. This is our last dance, this is our last dance. This is ourselves.
George Micheal is gone. No word on how. He died at home on Christmas at age 53. Anyone else want to buy a big stack of 2016 calendars to piss on them and light them on fire?

And the hits keep coming. Carrie Fisher AKA Princess Leia is dead. Heart attack.
Can this year just end a few days early please?

Not fully versed in his career but another one for the pyre. Hope there are no facehuggers where he is.

Bill Paxton is a man who shares a bit of an infamous distinction with Lance Henrickson: both men have been killed on screen by a Terminator (both men in Terminator 1, Paxton was one of the punks the Terminator killed for clothes while Lance was killed in the police station attack), a Xenomorph (Aliens), and a Predator (Predator 2 for Paxton and AvP for Lance). He was pretty good at being a cocky, but ultimately lovable SOB and by all accounts he was a stand-up guy.
Fun trivia: Jeanette Goldstein who played Vasquez in Aliens showed up to her audition dressed as a Mexican migrant, thinking the movie was about illegal aliens in the US. Paxton would later reference his in an unscripted line during Ripley's briefing with "yeah, she thought they meant illegal aliens, so she signed up". Goldstein's response was also unscripted (the "fuck you, man") while still keeping to her character. Nice little bit of unscripted banter that helped sell their characters to the audience and James Cameron decided to keep it.

Pretty sure that while he was mangled, Bishop was very much "alive" at the end of Aliens. Maybe Alien 3 he dies, off screen or something but I haven't seen that one.

Now Powers Boothe, who is known for playing Cy Tolliver in Deadwood, Curly Bill in Tombstone, and the Air Force colonel in the original Red Dawn, has passed away at age 68.
He had such an amazing voice - and 52 is too damn young to die.
