This is not in reference to anyone known to anyone else on this forum, not a fallen star in the famous sense; but I found out this morning at work that a work-friend of mine (and also of my best friend) who we both used to work with at our old jobs passed away recently due to what may have been a heart attack. The woman who told us this sad news this morning found out via text message; this was a man who, although we no longer worked with him, we'd see him on the bus in the mornings on the way in to work, as our jobs were both at call centers on the same bus route, and we'd have a great time chatting on the bus about ... well, pretty much everything. I had a hard time getting through the afternoon at work after finding out, and it was a bit of a shock, since aside from a recent injury sustained when falling, he seemed to be in pretty decent health. And he's only in his 50's, I think; not old enough to leave this world. Hats off to you, my friend, you'll be missed.

Fuck. No one deserves to go like that. I want my mind intact when it's my time. That is horrifying.

I have a terrible fear of dementia. I knew someone who had it and her family. I'm scared to death of ending up with it. Like Linders says, no-one deserves that.

Nobody deserves that. Nobody.
My grandmother (my father's mother) had Alzheimer's (which I think is a form of dementia), and at first it just seemed like average forgetfulness - she'd call me by my cousin's name, for example, and it would seem like a Freudian slip of sorts... then it progressed to the point where she was in a nursing home and could not take care of herself and would say things like "When I get my car back and go home again, things will be better" after having been unable to drive for over a year and having lived in the nursing home for almost as long... it was awful, seeing a woman who had previously been so fiercely independent, and able to do everything for herself faster than anyone could offer help, go from that to being unable to even make her own food or even remember her children's (and grandchildren's) names.
I spent a year living with her when I was 15, because I was attending an all-girls Catholic private school in Halifax my 10th Grade year (Nanny lived in Halifax but my parents and I lived in a small town about 2 hours away, so I lived with her during the school year), and every day I'd come back to her apartment from school in time for supper, and she'd have a delicious meal made up, and then after supper she'd go out with her friends and play cards, or bingo, or whatever it was that night; the only night she ever stayed home was Friday night, and she was more capable of living a good life than many other people I knew.
And only 5 or 6 years later she was dying of Alzheimer's. It was horrific.
Nobody ever deserves that.
My sympathies to Malcolm Young and his family, I pray things get better for them.

Carol Ann Susi has passed away. I really really hate cancer... I really wish all the money going into cancer research could find some way to eradicate it from existence. Or at least come up with a cure that actually cures it, instead of just masking it for a while. Carol Ann Susi was the voice of Mrs Wolowitz on "The Big Bang Theory", among many many other roles in television. My condolences to her friends and family for this loss.

Cali is a sad punk today. 1980's punk rock icon Brian Goble, of the Subhumans has passed away due to a heart attack. He was 57.

The passing of Joe Cocker is indeed a sad, sad thing.

*sniff* another childhood crush bites the dust. There are a lot of downsides to being an old soul.

Agreed. Even more interesting is that Donna Douglas grew up in a rural family as the only girl among brothers and male cousins. Therefore she wasn't even really having to act too much in that role.

Terry Pratchett has died at age 66.
I've never got to read Pratchett's work yet, but I fully well understand the legacy he left.
