It's never really been a secret that there's a major partisan difference between big cities and rural areas. Economy may be a big thing, but culture probably has a bigger influence.

GOP's voter base is overwhelmingly rural. This has been well established since...forever? I mean it looks really dramatic and all when pictured that way but if broken down by population instead of area it would be almost 50/50.
The last three elections were really tight in both popular vote and electoral collage. Let's not confuse the issue too much with silly images like this when they do not tell the story.
Sorry Iron, but I know you know better than this.

Ok... then how's this one? Obama lost 9.5 million votes compared to 2008 and the turnouts were nearly identical.
Bottom line, though, is that people like free shit no matter the cost and have voted accordingly. Please note that this is similar to the path taken by Italy, Portugal,Spain, Greece, etc.

Iron wasn't really implying any ignorance on the subject, I don't think. He could have been making a statement on the population differences in different counties.

I know that Iron wasn't implying ignorance. My caveat said as much. I really don't know what he was saying by showing this map as it was wholly misleading. It's as if I was to show a statistic about gun violence in the US and compare with the US's relaxed stance on gun ownership as a correlation. It's misleading and says nothing.
Yeah, Obama lost some votes. Few incumbents don't. Buch is wrong on the Obamacare issue, mainly because he can't wrap his head around the fact that what was passed is not the same health care he has in the UK or I have here. Obamacare is a fucking abomination. The worst possible combination of state regulation and the private sector gone utterly mad. Seriously Buch research it. It does NOT follow that state run health care doesn't work. Just the version that was passed in the US. We spend less per capita out of taxes on health care than in the US, don't tell me it's too expensive to do and it sure as hell isn't free.
The people settled on the evil they knew rather than the evil that was unknown. this is the chief advantage of the incumbent. It didn't help Romney at all that there were a few loose screws running under the GOP's banner blathering about "legitimate rape" or wingnuts like Trump supporting him when they can't even get off the birther train. The company you keep can drag you down. McCain found that out the hard way and so did Romney. Maybe they will figure it out in 2016.
Not trying to cause offense here but WTF with the bile here.

That's the second time this thread has called my opinion naiive and ill-informed. Just so you guys know - it's not. It's different to yours, especially Iron's. Now carry on.

Fine, tell me how it is better to be forced to pay out of pocket to buy health insurance from the same overpriced goons you could not afford or be penalized with higher taxes than what they had before Obamacare and I will not only shut up but apologize. It's replacing one double standard with another and since it is not universally applied it is intrinsically unjust. Now I'll carry on.

Ok... in that case, despite the fact that I never have set foot on the UK, I declare that Margaret Thatcher is the greatest leader Britain has ever had over their entire existance. See the logical fallacy in my argument? Seriously, Buch, I respect you, but you really need to read the bill as it was passed. It's something that would have easily made it through the Politburo.

You have an interesting definition of respect there. Usually when I respect people I don't assume their motivations and knowledge, so much as ask for them. I'm leaving you guys to your dick-measuring contest now, but I'd like to point out (for whatever it may be worth here) that I have in fact done the bloody reading.

Ouch. OK then. I can't see how thew thing looks like it works to you mainly because you haven't told me yet but whatever.
That's two people I've apparently pissed off tonight. Maybe I should STFU while I'm ahead.

Only a little pissed off, man. It's you - you know? Also, the irony that I got annoyed when you said I was 'wrong' is not lost on me. I probably had that coming a long time ago.

Obamacare really isn't the bill America needs in my opinion. Bureaucratic as balls and full of holes. European nations like the UK and Sweden have socialized health care that actually works because they were properly implemented. Defense Minister Mishkin would approve. ;D

That reminds me...
Russia now has three alert levels that replace what they had back in the Cold War: Putin's shirt is on (normal readiness), the shirt is being unbuttoned (heightened readiness), and the shirt is off (major existential crisis for Russia). After that it goes "Putin's carrying an AK" which means war has broken out.
;D

The time change came earlier to us than you and I am buggered up by it right now. I always get a little pissed off when the clocks change as my sleep which is never good to begin with gets screwed.
