Those torturers in the Iraq war. That stirred it up again. Plus - half a century isn't so long, considering some of the stuff we're talking about in the Vietnam war. The thing about the military - even a good one like ours or the US's - is that sometimes the structure of it causes war crimes. Uniforms and efficiency breed obedience, and if the guy at the top decides to torture a prisoner, maybe it'll happen. Strong obedience sometimes goes too far and becomes more important to a man than humanity. This is a problem - not one I have any solution for - and it will lead people to unjustly tarnish the uniform. And did you ever see that one Michael Moore film where there's a soldier talking about how he likes to listen to that 'burn motherfucker burn' song while he fights in civilian areas, which he finds hilarious? Yeah. War and armies breed dispicable behaviour as well as heroes. People like me are always on the lookout for it. And unfair people like me take that lookout too far. So that kind of attitude - hating good uniforms - it's pathetic and stupid and cruel... but you have to see the reasons. When you see a soldier smiling for a photo while he tortures a guy for fun, it sticks with you. Michael Moore is full of shit, more so than Bill O'Reilly. All he does is stir shit up and acts all like he's the one bringing truth to everyone. But I've seen people call him on his bullshit to his face and he deliberately launched into personal attacks on said person instead of backing up his claims. You also don't hear about the everyday little things that happen, or not so little. I personally know a Marine Infantry grunt who ran into a burning building to save several Iraqi children. Never got any air time on the news. Recently a soldier got crushed under an armored vehicle because he dove in front of the vehicle to save a small child who ran in front of a convoy. His story got maybe 3 minutes of air time, tops. The Abu Ghraib scandal was a serious outlier and is the exception rather than the norm. You should see what happens in a typical middle-eastern country on a daily basis. Al-asad in Syria? Pretty much business as usual albiet on a much larger scale. Pretty much ^^^this^^^ Micheal Moore is about the worst authority on...just about anything. He is the worst kind of celebrity spin doctor and a hypocrite on top of that. "Wah wah wah I think all capitalists are assholes who murder for money. Now excuse me while I count all my money that I got by spreading lies through pseudo documentaries." A lot of so called socialists are bored rich people who didn't work a day in their lives to get rich but think they are giving back by being this way. Moore is actually in my opinion the most hateful and spiteful little shit in US politics that I can see. Yes, in my books he tops Beck and O'Rielly. The press regularly buries reports about soldiers doing good things. Whether it makes poorly selling news or if they have an axe to grind is not for me to say. All outlets of the media, not just US are equally guilty of this. It makes me think it's about selling papers and getting site traffic more than politics. yeah, mentioning Moore's name will get me off on a rant because he is one of the worst kind of bottom feeders in US politics. He is all about fattening his wallet and there is no fighting for truth in him at all. Maybe truthiness but not truth.

Moore blows some pretty fat, fiery chunks. The man is a sensationalist, and that alone is one of many reasons why I can't respect the guy. Capitalism: A Love Story was more about criticizing Wall Street than an attack on capitalism, which is terribly misleading. Moore also doesn't seem to know or acknowledge the difference between corporatism and capitalism.
Keith Olbermann was whiney, Rachel Maddow is boring, Bill Maher isn't funny anymore and is painfully smug, and most of the Fox News talking heads are just vitriol spewing circle-jerkers. I pretty much don't pay attention to pundits anymore because it's basically just verbal pornography for terribly partisan people.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned the Michael Moore clip - or at least his name. For the record, what I was saying had absolutely nothing to do with Moore.
I have sooooo much to argue with in the above posts (not *just* talking Moore here) but to hell with it.

Face it, Republicans beat the hell out of Democrats when it comes to complaining.

We have complaining. You have one-upmanship.

Well, we have that too. Democrats are way better at protesting though.

I'll catch the reader's digest version (from both sides of the media) as well as read the transcripts. Just hope the moderator isn't as bad as the one for the VP debate (the mod for that one was a chick who had been invited to the Obama wedding and is a good friend of their's if I remember right...)

Come to think about it, during the VP debate, the moderator was rather harsh towards Paul Ryan while going a bit soft on Biden. Personally, Ryan made a kickass closing speech.

I'll catch the cliff's notes tomorrow on the bus to work.
I really don't care which corporate owned puppet gets the job in any case. Either way you guys are fucked. And probably the rest of the world with you.

Well... Obama flat-out said he wants to re-instate the old Assault Weapons Ban. Never mind that gun ownership among law-abiding citizens is at an all-time high with violent crime at a 30+ year low...
I know, resident gun nut up in arms over my guns, but considering the premise of "what's good for the goose is good for the gander"... how about the 4th, 5th, 10th, and 1st Ammendments? Any ban on the 2nd I can easily re-word to the rest of the Constitution.THAT is what worries me and, historically, is what happens once guns/arms are out of the way.
