There's a difference between a plot hole and a completely ludicrous ending, though.
To be honest, I'm of the opinion that everything to do with the Crucible or whatever it was called was stupid, though. Absolutely nothing about it makes any sense, in what's supposed to be a fairly logical science fiction setting.

There's a difference between a plot hole and a completely ludicrous ending, though. The difference is opinion, Glow. It's up to the player to say what plot holes are ludecrous and which are excusable, or even deliberately vague. If you mean the Star Child, it's called the Catalyst. The Crucible is the Prothean Device that reveals him and gives you control of the Reapers.

I meant the Crucible, then. The big thing. Kind of lazy plotting that it was found on the morning of the invasion, it's big as shit but can be built without being attacked, somehow sends the energy stuff out across the entire galaxy and can melt down Shepard's soul and put it in things, giving them cybernetic implants if Shepard chooses to jump into a big pit.

Kind of lazy plotting that the one person strong and skilled enough to beat the Reapers encounters them on the very same morning he is being considered for the Space Police. Kind of lazy plotting that on the same day he is introduced to the heart of the galactic community, where almost every species is vaguely humanoid and speaks English as their first language. Kind of lazy plotting that one of the species is just hot young women with blue skin who flirt a lot.
And don't get me started on that time when he got killed and then was brought back to life by one of his enemies, a group of racist bio-terrorists who he then decided to work for for no particular reason whilst all of his old allies inexplicably shunned him.
Or if we're just talking science, hows about that giant metal skeleton with three eyes that was being secretly built by turning humans (and their clothes) into a liquid which somehow conveys the 'essence' and indeed soul of a species onto a robot, which is then presumably re-shaped to look like a squid and becomes sentient by it.
And then you kill it by shooting its eyes.

Ouch... Mister Buch, that sarcasm there was downright solid! ;D I love it... lol
Having said that, you've got a point. Science fiction and fantasy both are genres of writing / story-telling that, in my opinion, allows for a healthy dose of un-realism. Unrealisticness. However you say the word... ;D
Focusing on one single plot point to make a point about how 'bad' something supposedly is, when the point you focus on is no different from various other plot points in the same series, is a little grasping.
I still contend that the only thng about Mass Effect in general that I saw as bad writing / poor planning was Kai Leng and his gorram Plot Armor. If I had Plot Armor like his, I would also be able to pose prettily in front of angry people with guns pointed at me and not be worried about them shooting me. *hisses* So, how's that for bad planning?

TITS!
Anyway before I forget. Congrats on finishing the Mass Effect Trilogy Lily! It was an epic series of games and I'm glad that you liked them ;D
Unfortunately I am one who doesn't like the endings and thought they could of done much better. I just think the whole catalyst/three choices came out of no where and cheapened the choices you made throughout the trilogy. It also made the Reapers not seem as menacing. But despite that with the extended cut they are bearable for me and I will eventually play through the whole series again at some point. My favorite endings are Refuse then Control (just had to point that out).
I agree with you on Kai Lang. He shouldn't have been in the game... what a prick.
CHEERS to you and may you return to the Mass Effect Universe soon!

I'm already running through another Trilogy Run - I had planned on playing the game making the decisions / dialogue choices I would actually make if I were in that situation, but apparently I am entirely too Neutral. I am neither Paragon enough nor Renegade enough to pass the Dialogue checks - I ended up having to kill Major Kyle and his Biotic Cult because my Paragon / Renegade Scale was too balanced and I could not talk him down... So, I think I may try to salvage this Shepard and make her completely Renegade. I played Paragon the first time, now let's see what happens when I am a jerk-ass! ;D

Yeah the Shepard I beat ME3 with was my personal Shep where I made the decisions that I thought I would make.
I have more Sheps to play, like my Nazi Female Shep who is basically going to do All The Worst Possible Things Ever.
My renegade racist Male Adept Shep who falls in love with Liara and over the course of the Trilogy he becomes less racist more open minded and actually wants to save the whole galaxy instead of just humanity. He also loses some of his biotic potential after being revived by Cerberus but has a better understanding for tech so he changes from a Adept to a Sentinel.
Those 2 Sheps are on ME2 right now but I plan on doing a full Trilogy playthrough of a Female Engineer/Medic. I haven't really decided on her personality or backstory yet.

Strangley I find that I always play the same Shepard. I can't usually bring myself to make the renegade calls.

That;s because you are a WUSS, Buch. I think it;s time this board has a new figurehead, and it will not be you.

I think being a wuss has little to do with it. Well at least for me. Most of the renegade options in ME 1 and much of ME 2 involve not so much being a badass as being that guy who takes lunch money and kicks down sand castles. Bioware seemed to only really get a handle on the whole renegade thing in ME 3.
It was the same problem in KotOR but for different reasons.
