You spend three hours searching for, finding, and joining a D-n-D style text based DBZ RPG using a charater you used in a similar RPG some 9 years ago... like me... xD

You should have just stopped at you being a DBZ fan. Anyhoo, you know you're a horrid music nerd when you can name several albums that came out during the year that somebody mentioned. Seriously, somebody mentioned 1985 and a bunch of albums and singles from that year popped into my head.

I'm fairly good at remembering album years, but when I hear metal references in my daily life, I end up humming the song or listening to it in my head.

April is when the second season of Game of Thrones terrorizes the airwaves.
I personally can't wait.

Looking forward to it. Tyrion gets more love, Jon Snow actually goes out and does something, Daenarys is gathering her forces ( Might be the 3th book if i'm mistaken though), The Greyjoys appear and of course the War of the Five Kings.

You know you're a nerd when you have to explain the concept of fanfiction to damn near everyone who goes to school with you--even the people who are younger than you.

Alternatively, I never, ever admit to anyone in real life that I write fanfiction. I'm just far too ashamed of it. It's more or less a guilty pleasure for me.
And yes, the amount of idiocy and sexual depravity from other fanfic writers are more or less a contributing factor in my reluctance to confirm my writing hobby. I'd be better off just saying that those long instances where I'm in my room for long periods of time is the part of the day where I'm doing black tar heroin, or hanging papers or something.

I call it a Parody. I write Parody. It doesn't sound as lame.

I don't know. I usually tell anyone who asks that I write fanfiction as a hobby. Told my grandmother that I had just finished writing a Star Wars story for fun, and it somehow got around to her telling me how she knew George Lucas' father, who used to run a stationary store in Modesto. So, interesting stuff can come of it, and I like seeing reactions. Fan art doesn't seem to have the same sort of stigma, so I see no reason why fanfiction should be seen as something different or lesser.
The way I see it, the only difference between some fanfiction and an official tie-in is a paycheck. And less Twi'lek on Twi'lek, maybe, but that's a different kinda discussion. xD

Alternatively, I never, ever admit to anyone in real life that I write fanfiction. I'm just far too ashamed of it. It's more or less a guilty pleasure for me. Given that I've composed at least one piece that was directly about something I had experienced within the fanfiction world and which would not make sense if someone went into it not knowing what fanfiction was, I've had to explain it to all my colleagues at school who didn't do that, so... So now, I'm relatively open about that. Trust me, when I premiered it, it became the talk of the department for a lot of reasons.

I'm somewhere in the middle when it comes to fanfiction.
I do get embarassed and these days try to write exclusively original fiction (although every few months I get tempted). Certainly there is a very ugly stigma attached to fanfic. But Knight makes a good point: that it is only one step removed from comissioned spin-off writing.
So I'm not sure there's really much to be embarassed about, or if I'm just being cowardly in the face of public derision, which really does abound. To be fair, I'm overweight, awkward, a big fan of sci-fi and sitcoms, and kind of gay - I don't want to add 'wrote this sweet fanfic about Grand Moff Tarkin' to that list, even though I totally did and it was sweet.
