I wish no one was making Episode VII and that it would never be a thing. But Abrams isn't George Lucas and that's literally all that matters. It will already be better than the three prequels combined just because George won't be writing or directing.

Ultimately I do like the new Star Trek movies, but mostly because they're shiny and happy. You don't get that a lot with sci-fi these days; everything else has to be dark and brooding. Unfortunately, they aren't very smart though. Star Trek was always about presenting plausible technologies and dealing with important real world issues with a sci-fi twist. The new movies are just BOOM woosh zap zap zap running, running explosion. The part of me that likes fun enjoys that, and I really love the look of the rebooted universe. Finally having extended scenes on Earth was cool and I like the new look of the Klingons. I do like the Klingons, but the forehead/hair deal was always too silly looking to me. I also like the idea of a more military-oriented Starfleet after the incidents in the first movie. Not a very Gene Roddenberry vision, but it makes sense. You lose an entire fleet, a vital world, and almost your capital world to a threat that came out of nowhere, and you're probably going to get paranoid.
But Abrams should probably be perfect for Star Wars. Star Wars is meant to be all the things these new Star Trek movies are. Fun, exciting, and light on complex plots. Hell, even if it has the same writers that made Into Darkness, they'll still be more competent than Lucas.

...when a friend's response to an insult (for being a nerd) is a Yoda impression saying "A flying shit, I do not give!!" and you're still giggling about it hours later.

And I realize I just kinda jacked it up. It was "Give a flying shit, I do not." Still hilarious.

Him: "Hmm... offended you, I have. Fucks to give, I have none."
