Haha. Glow.
Anyway, I picked Liara because plowing an alien makes the game feel more like a Sci-Fi to me. In a J.T. Kirk way.

Liara was the first, though, so that's why I stuck with her.

Oh, I've just realised you mean romance options. I was wondering why Wrex was missing...

I like Tali but I like Ash more. Better fit for male Shep

Honestly I like ash more as well. She's colourful and quite strong. Tali is nice but... she's too waifish for my liking.
If I'm going to attempt to finish a playthrough as a MaleShep.
For a FemShep, I like Garrus. He maybe a bit of a dork at times... but a snarky dork.

I don't think Ash is a Christian. She just mentioned that she believed in a form of creative design.
Xenophobic, however, certainly. I kind of figured she dropped out of that near the end of the game. Navigator Pressly was more xenophobic than she, and he retracted those beliefs (as was evident from the audio logs in ME2's normandy crash site mission).

I actually thought some of her supposed xenophobia was pretty justified. Being wary of Garrus and Wrex walking around the sensitive, secret systems of the Normandy mainly. I can't imagine an American soldier would be too happy with a Russian national or a dangerous mercenary living with them in a nuclear submarine right after the Cold War.
Calling Liara a bug faced monster is much less justifiable. I think there's a line in her Mass Effect 2 appearance where she flat out says she doesn't like aliens (but that's more shitty writing, than any form of useful character development.)
I'm not bothered by her (pretty obviously Christian) religious beliefs, though (Even though Atheism is goddamn awesome and all the characters I like should reflect my own worldview!). Compared to the xenophobia (or even on their own) they're pretty reasonable.
I've never liked Liara, though. She went from whiny stalker weirdo in Mass Effect 1 to an inexpicable hardened but similarly unlikable cyber-gangster in Mass Effect 2 (I guess it helps that most of that character development was presumably in that shitty comic) to a slightly more likable, sympathetic but still creepy if you think about it, Big Brother/Peeping Tom type in Lair of The Shadow Broker.

Well i'm going for Tali then in my canon playthrough for Mass Effect 3. ^^;
To be fair, I only went for Liara in ME1 because i hated Ashely so darn much. I dunno, every time i see a alien-hater in my Sf shows-games-movies i immdiatly have the urge to shoot them in the face. Blame Babylon 5 for that.

Nothing wrong with Ash being Christian. Props to Bioware for have the quads to make a character religious.
She was xenophobic but after working with aliens for a bit and some helpful coaching from Paragon Shep she comes out of it a bit. She only had dry land postings in human only colonies prior to ME 1. The one experience her family had with aliens was the First Contact War which was only 30 years previous and it is completely justified that humans be pissed off over it. It was after an unprovoked attack. One that ruined her grandfather's career and got her family blacklisted.
Her behavior in this context is perfectly reasonable. There is also nothing wrong with her statement that humans should only count on themselves. It's true. She could have put better than her bear dog analogy but she was right.

Should've joined up with Cerberus then ;D
To be fair, i can understand her point of view as being pro-human. Hell I was pro-human on the entirety of Avatar and Aliens! I do like the angle they went for and i might go for her romance when i get around playing Mass effect 1 again if just to see to where it goes. Also she looks quite hot in ME3 so who knows, i might be jealious when we see Tali's face...maybe.
