I didn't mind the Mako, but I hated the way the vehicle sequences were done. I DO hate the Hammerhead as all regulars here know. Given a choice between jumping high and armour I'll take armour thank you very much.
My eye gets this twitch though when a reviewer gives anything a 10/10. I mean really, the game is perfect? No flaws at all? There is absolutely nothing you want improved on it at all?
If I could have gotten 2 things improved they would be more RPG elements. I don't mean phat loot or clunky inventory, but an improved skill tree. They stripped the skill tree down from ME 1 instead of fixing it. Big mistake.
The second thing I would have done if it was me would have been to try to work the loyalty quests into the main quest a bit more. Doing all these loyalty missions really detracts from the pacing of the story in my opinion, making it feel like a game that is trying to be a movie rather than a game that is so perfectly pieced together that the movie elements just shine through and let you feel like both viewer and participant. ME 1 was brilliant at that, the pacing was just perfect whereas it feels like in ME2 that I am pausing the movie for a commercial break.*shugs*
I loved ME 2 but both games got things right and got things wrong.

I'm gonna try and talk myself through my thoughts on this one. I don't think ME2 was a 10/10 game. For as much as I gush over every game I play, I would say only a few games were truly 10/10 for me. KotOR, Poke'mon: Red Version, and Final Fantasy VII (Dragon Age is almost there, but not quite). But I think ME2 was a solid 9.
My reasons why I think it wasn't perfect: See Linders's post. He pretty much nailed it. The sidequests in the game were great. The Estevanico was an amazing bit in the game, as was the Normandy Crash Site. But I really felt like I was an autopilot through that game. It was beautiful, the lore was deep, and there were great characters, but I think 9 time out of 10 I would just pick the option in the paragon slot and move on.
Tons of things were improved in ME2, but the interactivity element was pushed to a minimum. It's saying something when Red Dead Redemption and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood both feel more like RPGs than ME2. xD
Also, BioWare should just stop with the vehicle sections. The MAKO, to me, only worked well on the Sky Ramp.

I hate the Hammerhead. I never did finish that stupid DLC which required it to hop over lava. I was never thrilled to drive the Mako either, but at least it handled slightly better.

Lair is worth it. Stolen Memories is worth it to even off your dirty dozen. Overlord? Nahhhh

I got Lair yesterday, for 200 points (probably closer to what BioWare DLC is actually worth), but still haven't played it (I had an appointment with Gandalf at the Prancing Pony, if you know what I mean.) ;D
Yeah, I don't agree that the way to remove a 'cluttered' inventory system is to completely excise it. With a few small changes, ME1's inventory could have been much easier to handle (remove that 'you have more than 150 items, please melt them all into omni-gel' feature, and let us equip whatever weapons we want.) And I didn't like the way Mass Effect 2 treated me like a baby that needed to have my hand held (EDI). I think I know which end of the one-way corridor to fight my way down, thanks.

Yeah, EDI's commentary on the obvious got tiresome quick.
I was genuinely hoping for a way to remove her when I first played. But when I found the AI core I knew it wasn't going to happen.

Heh, Buch implied what I was thinking. Yes, yes, I am a very bad man.
On to the meat of your point Glow, I am still not convinced that the loss of the inventory was that big a deal. The loss of umpteen million guns that all worked exactly the same was replaced by a small collection of weapons that all handled differently. The only weapons that handled exactly the same were the Mantis and the Widow. In some games the search for phat loot enhances the experience. I think in ME it did not. It kind of takes away that element of "hey, we are the best of the best and backed by a multi trillion credit organization" when you can legitimately go "ooh, that low life merc has a better gun than me".
Saying that I am not even certain why they bothered giving us a stat on shields/armour/health. It becomes quite meaningless when it all comes back magically in seconds and evaporates like mist when a Blue Sun farts in general direction. They stripped the RPG elements down too much but I honestly do not miss the inventory. I would rather see a better skill tree and see a return to health stats meaning something. Oh and armour mods, I like those too.

No, I'm well and truly on Glow's side regarding the inventory. I miss the inventory more than the skill tree or anything.
Now if you'll excuse me. I've got a date with Tom Bombadill in a carved-open mossy oak stump. If you catch my drift.
