Well when you consider that Fem Shep all but throws herself at poor Jacob like a randy rabid cougar in heat, there was no chance at all for that scene to be anything but a cheap porno.
Agree 100% about Bastila. Limiting the choices makes for making the whole thing a lot more deep and meaningful. Hmmm. It's been a few years. I wonder how much of the old magic will come back if I fire that game up again....no no, I have to finish DA:O first.

Even Carth made a good romance. Man I miss that game. Kotor 2's romances weren't nearly as good.
I think they should limit the romances in ME3. I just want Joker to be added.

I agree that sometimes less is more, especially the fact that the developers should start taking notes after ME2, but it can be a double edge sword at times. Remember Baldur's Gate? Where the female PC only had one option to romance one guy and he's a terrible character to say the least. When you prefer Kaidan or Carth over him, you know shit has hit the roof this time around.
Don't get me started that the Male PC from Baldur's Gate has more options than the female counter part.
At least in KotOR 1, both side have equal opportunity with the romance, compare to Baldur's Gate.

Kotor 2 had romances? Exactly Which is why I wrote "The Echani Chronicles" for poor Brianna the Handmaiden

Ah, Kotor 2. That game prepared me for having several women drooling over me for no reason in Real Life Mass Effect.
The Atton "romance" was my favourite, even though it going anywhere got cut.

Yeah, the Atton one was the only one that was any good. And, as you say, it didn't get complete.
For the male Exile...there was nothing. Visas was creepy, and the handmaiden was...the handmaiden.

I prefer Atton as well, if it weren't for the final content being cut due to time restraints, think Atton's path would be much more complete.

I think the Atton 'romance' could have been very good. The 'Pazaak in your head' scene was brilliant. I remember it in great detail.

Atton's character was very well done and I wish they'd carried his story full circle. Aw well. "Pazaak in My Head" blew my mind; I was like, "this can be in a video game?" Yeah, he was my first video game crush. But there was a degree of, well, reality to the KOTOR2 romances that there also was to some degree in ME1. They were slow, they happened "behind the scenes," they didn't really interfere with the main plot, they were referenced more than they were actually acted out. I'm not saying that ME1 wasn't "acted out;" I'm saying that, for this sort of thing to work, romance in a video game has to either go big or stay subtle. This sort of half-baked things in ME2 really doesn't cut it

I remember being shocked by 'You'll be right here, with me, playing Pazaak.' It was a very 'human' line from someone in Star Wars.

Damn, I need to play Kotor 1 + 2 again.
Though...I hope it's not just the nostalgia that makes me think those were the best games ever.

I have such fond memories of them, I was almost afraid to play them again. Played the first one through last month - it was still amazing. ;D

I'm late!
The Atton romance is the reason I love Obsidian more than I probably should. (I might be picking up Dungeon Siege III since they're involved.) It's right up there with the Carth romance, and might be a little better in my mind. Like Buch said, Atton was an unusually human character.
I'm still holding out for KotOR 1 and 2 remakes using the DA engine.
