I am reading Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Excellent biography about a brave young woman escaping the misogynistic Islamic world and discovering the wonders of the West. It is almost hard to believe it is true, as it definitely tugs at my heart.

Ah, I've heard very good things about that book as well. One of my friends is reading it, and she has been raving about it for days. I will have to check that out after I am done reading Ayaan Hirsi Ali's writings.

I am going to start with Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. Wish me luck.

That series actually started off really good.
Like very many really long running series it started to hang itself on it's own various plot threads but it did start off really good.

Im not even halfway through and im liking it so far, but the seires being 14 plus books ahead is a bit daunting. Also im that kinda guy who prefers his couples being together in the beginning...and i read just now the main character will have three wives. Kinda baffles me and wonder when that will happen. Also Mat is the coolest guy ever, you remember snarky Gorvar in Fellowship of the Blue Lady? He IS that guy.
Also im pondering if i should read a Witcher book i found in my library when i did my rounds there... It's called the Sword of Destiny, anyone read it?

The three wives thing starts pretty early he meets 2 of them in the first book. But they are not actual marriages, more like ....informal companions. Each of them I think are needed in their time to keep him balanced as he kinda starts to pull a Hamlet later on. In that he is either becomes stark raven mad or pretends to to trip up his enemies.
Mat is pretty cool and gets far better as the books go. I simply cannot stand most of the female characters though as Robert Jorden's idea of strong female lead seems to mean misandry, smug and petty and bitchy.

Point, the only woman character I liked so far is the Aes Sedai. I got an idea who the first "wife" is...wondering if i should be okay with it? Misses Gorvar wasnt to keen on that idea so i wanna know iof its okay with the ladies of the forum. I think it's kinda cool but hey...i;m a dinosaur.
Also I had a Geralt vibe from the Swordmaster dude.

Moiraine is one of maybe 2 or three of the many women in that series who is believable. Don't get me wrong, she's a bitch too but for believable reasons. And yes, I like her too and she only gets better as well. The send off she eventually gets is pretty bad ass.

Hint. the first "wife" is not Egwene. or Moiraine. That should narrow it down by a milestone.
Lan...think exiled samurai prince and you are pretty bloody close. He is flat out one of the most awesome characters...ever. only says what he needs to, when he needs to, has a dark past that will mostly come to light by the end of the first book and is layered out like, in the thoughts of one character, an onion.

Lord of the Seven Towers...which sounds like a bad ass title come to think of it. The relationship he has with Moiraine...im sure they are just good friends. Which im grateful for since im kinda tired in fiction that a guy and a girl always hook up or something instead of being friends....ill probably retract those words when i get to book VII i guess! Seriously this mountain is steeper then A Song of Ice and Fire!
Also Rand's backstory so far reminds me of the main character from Beserk. As in MY MOTHER WAS A CORPSE!

I couldn't finish it. I found it just dragged out too much.
a lot of folks like it but *spoiler spoiler spoiler* I really shouldn't say too much to be honest.
