You know when you come across a fan fiction that has an amazing summary and promises you rainbows, riches and cake then hands you a pile of wank?
I have just been reading oen of those. It started out ok. I thought ... ' its no Andre Norton, but its not bad either." ... then the author went schizo... the kind of schizo that involves mary-sue's, Gary-sue's, gothic/emo angst and some major abuse of the English language and the fiction they were fanning about.
O M G! I tried to keep reading it out of sheer stubborness because I hate to stop something I start but this author managed to deter me for the first time ever! I should have known when the Predator's turned up in jeans, camo pants and boOts with buckles belts and spikes on. O M G!
It didn't just top there though! Oh noes! They started to out do themselves as the chapters went on. Suddenly the story kept shifting through each chapter. No one thing seemed to stay still. One example of this: In chapter 4 the heroine said she loved her parents and that her father was a big influence on her life and would always tell her jokes and give her amusing nicknames. She stated she missed him very much now her parent's were dead. In Chapter 1 she said her parent's were still alive. In Chapter 7 there is then three paragraphs of how much she hated her father because he was a "man" and was horrible to her but then later on in the same chapter she said she couldn't remember her parents.
.....
Why does bad fanfiction make me so annoyed? I don't even normally care if the person has the worst grammar and spelling in the universe or can't even describe very well as long as it is a good story that I can follow without having to stop and sya "What? But I thought he died in chapter 3 when his head exploded... there's no coming back from that!"

I only get annoyed by bad fanfiction is it has more reviews than mine ;D
Which it always does! Honestly, I know it's shallow but I really care about reviews sometimes. And the really bad stuff tends to get reviewed a lot!

Thats because fan girls and equally bad fan fiction writers tend to flock to that stuff because its like themselves and if they big up another bad fiction then there work seems better. Thats what I've noticed of it anyway.
Seriously I don't mind the odd fluff fiction, maybe a little mary-sueing if I'm in the mood, but when you just walk the plank with the fiction.... argh.
Don't worry about it we all like to be praised and seen for our achievements. I'd probably care about reviews if I ever got any, but its like my day time job, nobody likes to talk to me about my music other than people interested in using it. In every field there is jealousy and often good work doesn't get the attention it deserves due to it being too good. Nobody likes to be out done. I'm trying not to sound shallow there myself. I'm not saying my music is the greatest or my writing, but I get more people using my stuff than my peers who like to ignore me and my work. I take it as flattering rather than the insult it can feel like getting the cold shoulder. The world is just full of fickle people and I would rather not be one of them so I review everybody. Even if it was awful I can always find something good to say with some constructive criticism.

I just write for the sake of writing, and enjoy it.
I enjoy feedback and reviews any time I write anything, but the reason I write anything in the first place is for the benefit of yours truly. It's a me thing, I enjoy to write. I write to release my thoughts into an infinite pool of radiance. To release endorphins I wouldn't get from exercising or any other activity.
Also, when going through a phase of Starfox nostalgia, I decided to read some of the stuff on fanfiction.net. There was one really good one, but that was one out of the twenty I read, and the majority of it made me want to gouge out my eyes. Some of the worst fanfiction on the interwebs can be found on it's flagship site.

LMAO Fanfiction.net can house some serious douses but it also has some neat ideas and stories. I came across one author on Fanfiction.net that only writes when she is drunk. You can tell by her stories strangeness but its still a really great story. lol That place has them all.
I feel kind of out of place not being an MMORPG person. Never played War craft, starfox... whatever else. Just good ole console games. Maybe its because I was brought up playing the original Ninetendo, Mega drive and Gameboy. No MMORPG's on them.

And Zarsthor I'm going to get around to read your story but I'm slow at getting around to stuff. I've only read a few stories outside of this site. Some Final Fantasy and Kotor but nothing much. And if you really need a break from bad fanfiction then read my very own fanfic The Kaidan Effect now available on the 2nd page of the fanfiction section at www.masseffectfanfic.proboards.com! ;D

I've only read bad fan fiction to be a total snarky bitchface.
I've recalled I have an unfinished chapter on a WoW fan fic that's been sitting in my hard drive for quite a while now, it's kinda deconstruct the idea of the elements of a bad fan fiction including a self insert and a non sentical storyline. Very stupid but I'm trying to follow the spirit Adam Douglas. So yeah. Maybe someday I'll post it... a fat chance.
But on the other hand I've tried not to be judgmental with fan fictions... especially with the ME ones. For some reason I feel bad at mocking those, since for some reason I feel like the ME community is kinda close tight knit. Despite I've seen lots of rubbish writing with emo sues and lots of pornographic shippings of FemShep/whatever, I've tried to refrain myself give a really nasty review about it.
Speaking of that, I've recalled there's this fan fiction about the aftermath of Mindior. Now After effects of the raid is trumatising but the way the writer protraying Shepard as a whining emo girl a foreshadowing that the story is following on the lines of "Raid of Mindior is the new dead parents" since I've kinda felt that the portrayal of a shell shock victim is kinda overblown and melodramatic. That was stuck in my mind for quite a while now that it made me recently start writing a fan fiction based on the colonist background.
While on the subject of bad fan fictions I've used to frequent the House of bad fan fiction forums but recently it was shut down... much to my dismayed D:

Hmmmmm I wonder who has the most reviews on this site.... Yeah, I can't complain - I actually do pretty well with the reviews. And btw, I'm very fond of the Kaidan Effect. Read it again last week. I haven't read any fanfic about Mindoir. I like to read fics about the various backstories for Shepard. I found a good Spacer one and an excellent Survivor one so far.

Ah Kaidan Effect. That's completely spot on about the character expy. Also for I've found this little link that is known as the "The Terrible Crossover Idea Generator" Be warned, this might your brain cells a bit but it's amusing. kaction.com/badfanfiction/-- Yeah, I was working on the colonist backstory fan fiction at the time I was having another writers block for Little Wing. They are both almost finished now but I'll finish up Little Wing first since I've got a few paragraphs left and also the fact I've haven't name my colonist story yet. Atm I've just called it "Mindoir's Lullaby" atm. Too fluffy, needs a differnt name >.<

I saw a really bad earth born fiction somewhere. It abruptly stopped though, maybe the author realized that making Shepeard into the X-men wasn't a good idea. It was so weird she was selling her friends off to the army though.

I read a weird Pred fiction last night that turned into a fairy-tale randomly... there were parties, princes and silly human dresses... I wanted to puke at its sheer cuteness. It was a Lex and Scar one ... BTW who named Scar -scar because I don't remember anyone calling him that in the Movie ....
