Goddamn, I wanna make some penne noodles with some awesome red sauce now. Just until this chicken is finished holding off my appetite.
Yeah, it's kind of funny that I wrote in the GenDis "Pet Hates" thread how I really hated when people did that, and I immediately read that crap a few hours later. Good lord. Anybody who says stuff like that is insensitive, borderline racist and irresponsible shit. I will admit though, I've been guilty of blaming my Irish heritage for things in the past, such as my previous entanglement with alcoholism.

At the risk of causing unpleasant debates-- you know I have seen some of those Feminist Frequency videos which I understand are very divisive and draw death threats - and I didn't care for them at all.
To my view she seemed to draw very spurious conclusions from tiny snippets of games shown and interpreted without any context. Lots of occasions, she would show three or four seconds from a game I knew well in the middle of an argument, along with several other game clips, and never directly address the scenes / games in question in any kind of depth, just sort of leave them there as though they were evidence for her point.
Her most recent one involved clips from the City Elf origin of Dragon Age Origins meant to illustrate (and illustrate is the word - she never actually explained these clips) a point about violence against women. Clips of the human noble moustache-twirler who ruins your wedding abusing the elf girls. The video made no reference to -- 1) the many anti-male aspects of the scene, 2) the fact that the violence was more racially motivated than sexually, 3) the fact that this game is set in a facsimile of the middle-ages, or 4) the fact that this abuser would moments later be not only stood up to and morally defeated but also killed by either a groom or a bride. That's not to say that this scene is perfect - I have a lot of issues with it myself, but the host here addressed none. It was just 'there - someone abused a woman - bad game, NEXT'. You might as well show the opening of Sonic 3 and say it promotes violence against hedgehogs.

Dare I go on to say-- It's a shame what has become of the word 'feminism'. It used to mean 'in favour of equality for the sexes - opposed to the massive, overbearing, proud and undeniable institution of chauvinism'. Now that chauvinism is somewhat less, more insidious, more taboo the word feminism is left.... sort of, standing there like Rambo after Vietnam was over - struggling with PTSD and being prodded by ignorant dickheads still dealing with their own frustration.* Half-misinterpreted and half misused. A similar thing, I think, happened to the phrase 'politically correct' which used to mean 'not beating up blacks, gays and the mentally ill on the street for fun, and while we're at it, not calling them niggers, queers and spastics'. It was a wonderful thing and it was needed. Now the current generation don't know what to do with the phrase, maybe it's no longer of use. It's Rambo. People abuse it and it goes on silly rampages before people reign in it. Maybe we need new buzzwords, is what I'm saying. Change feminism to 'genderequalitism' or if at all possible something more punchy, and see how many of us on all sides suddenly go, 'Oh' and stop arguing over nothing. *winner of the world's greatest simile award, 2014. Most of the trouble I have with "feminism" is the second wave variant of it which really was about replacing the patriarchy with a matriarchy. There are enough of them still around that I am wary of the topic in general. The use of terms like "genderequalitism" will never fly with these folks because (and I know full fucking well I'm treading on thin ice here) these folks are so hell bent on making victims of themselves that they will never accept it. Feminist Frequency is in my mind as bad as "the Amazing Atheist." Every bit as full of strawman arguments, every bit as full of shit just arguing the opposite points. This doesn't mean I'm going to issue death threats against Sarkesian or her family. If she wants to talk rot, well that's what youtube is for. She doesn't get the right to be taken seriously by me though.
What is so fucking wrong with the simplicity of "treat others as you have yourself be treated?" I like that rule. It's simple, it's fair, it's so fucking uncomplicated that it's used as an admonishment to toddlers. But adults cannot comprehend it. They have to disambiguate, argue, justify and contort every fucking thing until the concept of fair is completely forgotten in the mess.
In other words Buch, I agree with you on this a lot.

A thought occurred to me last night. A lot of the "internet personalities" that chimed in on this bullshit were pretty obscure. I cannot help but wonder if their outrageous behavior was spurred on in part to generate clicks on their terrible ass blogs? Discuss.

I don't see so much of this pro-matriarchy second wave, excepting the occasional crazy zealot, like you get with every standpoint. But--- there's a lot I don't see!
Don't get me started on the Amazing Atheist. I understand atheist frustration, but I'm ashamed of that guy.

In other words, #GamerGate is a petty excuse to harass and threaten a woman. That is not cool at all.

Anyone who holds the opinion of a guy who films himself shoving bananas up his own ass in high esteem needs to have a good, hard look at themselves anyway.

I had a bad feeling about TheAmazingAtheist ever since I watched one or two of his vids back in 2006.

Likewise. I saw his movies show around that time and thought, "Well... I hope they get this guy off the air..." And then.
I had not heard about the bananas. It sounds like the Jennifer Lawrence thing except a thousand times hotter.

There's a term already being used (but not too often). It's called humanism. We should use it more often.

There are many types of humanism though, reading through the article. I'm more the religious humanism type (specifically, a Buddhist Humanist).
Aside from a slight error that I've did, let's go back to the subject. It doesn't change the fact there's got to be new term the represent equality to ALL humans, regardless of who they are.
Also getting to the core of the subject of this tabloid scandal. The articles that Linders post it sums up my thoughts about this. The lack of professionalism in game journalism that had shown here, is not the first time it happened actually. (eg: Gamespot with Kane and Lynch, Florence getting fired from Eurogamers for bit giving a certain game a unfavorable score, etc.)
However, my main complaint within the shitstorm of the nasty debates and the name calling, is that the whole political correctness distracts from the real problem that the games industry has been plagued for quite some time. Lack of professionalism. And this scandal is more or less the extreme form of a broken barrier between Developers and so-called objective journalists.
To be honest, we would have save a lot of grief if both parties just... draw the line. There's a reason why the fraternization guidelines exist in the workforce.
Anyway, to paraphrased that famous quote from Chinatown.
"Forget it, Jake. It's the Games Industry."
