Aww Now I'm jealous... My Mother is an excellent organizer, but not really a great chef or baker. And she consistently gets weird health kicks. One year I asked for Lasagna for my birthday. Simple Lasagna. No frills, pasta, meat sauce and cheese. Nope. Mom added in a layer of eggplant for health benefits... *high fives linders instead* Eggplant may be good in lasagna, if done right... My mother's been on weird health kicks, too, but she's always been able to make food taste good, no matter what was in it. The only food either of my parents have ever made that I could not eat was when my father made fishcakes. It's the texture, I think - it really squicks me out. Mum can't eat them either, in fact, she has to leave the house and go to her sister's for dinner if Dad wants to make fish of any kind - though, to be fair, my mother can't handle the smell, taste or texture of fish / seafood of most kinds. She can't eat lobster either. For Christmas the first year Linders and I were dating, the three of us (myself, Linders, and his mother) went to my parents' house for Christmas Eve Dinner, and my father made a big pot of seafood chowder - something four of the five of us absolutely love - Linders, his mother, my father and myself were happy as clams (pun very much intended!). Mum had to eat something else, and I was surprised she was able to even be in the same house with the smell of seafood chowder wafting through the kitchen and dining room... And really hot spicy food hurts me. Whenever Dad made chicken wings for supper, he'd have to leave a third of the wings un-sauced so I could eat them, because both he and Mum love hot Hot Sauce. As for lasagna, I have yet to decide who makes a better lasagna between Linders or my father - and I think that may remain a tie for the rest of forever because they both make amazing lasagnas. Dammit. Now I want lasagna for supper tonight...

Casting thread necromancy lvl 4
We put down the deposit for the things we are renting for the wedding today. Costs are driving a little higher than expected but weirdly that's not unexpected. I figured that the logistics of pulling together the tableware for the event were going to be impossible. The inlaws are covering the catering and wine, we are covering the rentals and other beverages. Mom has the flowers locked down, we just need decent weather.
I better inquire about tux rentals soon too. Oy, I have not been in a suit since my high school grad. I hope it's not too hot that day. I'm not a sweater, but I also don't wear a lot of layers of clothing in the summer.

I am getting so excited Putting the deposit down on the rentals today (tables / chairs / dinnerware) was the finalizing of one major step in the process... and the revelation that my parents are offering to cover the catering and the wine was rather a financial burden lifted from our shoulders - a relief, and further proof that my parents are awesome. And Linders' mother is a very talented florist-type person - she'll make the flowers awesome!

*Hands over an undeath potion*
Must be hard to contain that excitement. Wishing the both of you well.
EDIT: I don't mean not. Sorry, my awful grasp in the English language gets in the way sometimes. Either way, I do really hope you two have fun!

I have a problem.
I am trying desperately to figure out a song playlist for my cousin to learn, and I am running out of time since he needs time to learn the songs on his guitar before August.
I have three songs figured out so far, but I am not really all that knowledgeable about wedding-appropriate songs...
Does anyone here have any ideas for wedding songs that would sound good if played on an acoustic guitar, whether the words are sung or not?
Thanks in advance for any advice...
The ones I have so far are: "Into a Fantasy" by Alexander Rybak
"A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri
and "Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkle (though this video was covered by Peter Hollens).

...Gorvaarrrr!
But seriously, how about an acoustic version of Samian Night? Dunno how well it'll translate into acoustic depending on who's playing, but it's worth a try.

I can't speak for both of us (Lily said "I approve" next to me as I started to type this) but I like it. Warhammer GorvarLily said we are not playing "Rains of Castamere" they keep killing the grooms at weddings where it is played.

Samian Night is an excellent song - and given that I like Loreena McKennitt a lot, how did I not know of this song? It does fit in well with the "Irish / Celtic Folk" music theme I was wanting to arrange for the wedding... and my cousin will do a good job translating it to guitar, I think - he's very talented that way.

Oh come now. It will be the ultimate test of nerds at your wedding. Those that head for the door at the first notes are the friends who get to come to the reception.

I literally roared with laughing at that! And to be honest, I'd actually had a fleeting thought earlier about actually asking my cousin to learn the song, and to see how many people recognize it... though, to be fair, most of the guest list consists of Family Only - with a very small number of friends thrown in - and I don't think the other members of my family watch Game of Thrones...

It's still a nice tune tho. Play it a bit more up beat and it'll be awesome That or the Game of Thrones intro tune. That one is hype, I actually heard it being played by street artists in Brugges and Ghent!
