The whole thing was pretty spontaneous and not at all planned out. She asked, I said yes. There was a moment of shock where I had to repeat the answer. It's going to be a LONG engagement as she has a very large family and the reception will be nightmarishly expensive. The expense was what was keeping me from asking but as long as there is no pressure to have the wedding in a short time frame we might be able to swing it...eventually.
Neither of us are into those whole elaborate public stunts and there are no sports worth mentioning happening in Halifax this time of year. Our hockey team winning the memorial cup was the biggest sports news...ever....here. Not counting Cole Harbour being the Home of Sidney Crosby. Anyway being called out to answer a question like that in such a public way is not our style so I don't know how it would have turned out.

It's because I like Toby Keith isn't it? I don't blame you for your poor judgement, Gorvar, I blame you for not adjusting once you realized the truth. Cue "What is Truth" discussion.

In this case "truth" is that Toby Kieth has as much redneck satire attached to his music as redneck. The joke is really on folks who don't get that he's joking. I watched a couple of his other videos after Red Solo Cup came out and he has got to be laughing at himself harder than any of us are laughing at him.

Yeah, I should have planned it more... got a nice titanium ring, big enough for Linders' large, manly hands... got down on bended knee... propose the hell out of him... but I just kind of... spontaneously... asked. And he said Yes! And I was like "Wait... what? Really?? EEE!" *tackle*Happiest girl ever... right here...

Pretty much glommed right onto him and apparently held on for dear life for a long time. He's just so... huggable... and cuddle-able... I never want to let go. ... Yeah, I'm pretty cheesy at times...

In other words, he might have tried to run, so you tackled him?

Well, I can't run very fast, so... if it takes a tackle to ensure I get to keep him... In all seriousness, I just was in the kind of mood I sometimes get in where if I'm not hugging him, it hurts me. I need his arms around me in order to feel safe. I know how sappy that sounds, but it's true... there's just something so comforting about his arms around me. Plus, y'know... that one little word: "Yes" coming out in his voice in response to my question... nothing sounds better than that! It prompted a tackle. EDIT: And thank you, Gorvar, for comparing me to one of the smartest dinosaurs in that movie! I like to think I am a Clever Girl, except I would not kill my target like she did in the movie...

Oh, Gorvar... you know Linders would never snap your arms... he's too much of a softy to do such a thing! The only way he'd hurt someone is if they attacked him first, or attacked me or his mother. But you make me and Linders both laugh, so... your arms are safe... ... ...for now...

Update on this wonderful news. I found out today that a friend of my parents is apparently a Justice of the Peace, and has agreed to do the marriage ceremony for us after my father told him of our engagement (neither of us are religious enough to join a church just to get married in it, when we would not normally be members of the church).
I was also visiting my cousin at her new house she and her husband just bought, and she (rather excitedly) offered to be our photographer, and said she would do it free of charge! Now, if she's still of a mind to do so when it comes time for our actual wedding, I'll have to think of a nice gift for her... or give her a "financial donation" of some kind... since I'd feel hideously guilty if she did all the work of being the photographer for free...
But apparently my extended family is just as excited as I am, since they were offering advice and help on how to plan an inexpensive wedding... I feel so loved!

Justice of the Peace? .... Is that like a Judge Dredd thing? Because that would be so cool.

Nothing so interesting as that. More like a minor court official permitted to perform certain legal duties like issue subpoena...or perform weddings.

Thank you Gorvar! You gave me a hilarious mental image there, I love it! I actually tried looking up pictures of Judge Dredd combined with wedding stuff, but no luck... lol
