Man, people were retarded historically. A lot of people still are... sad to say... the world is a messed up place.

Clint, dare I suggest that they did check with God first and that was entirely the problem? He tends to tell people what they want to hear... More importantly --- Off topic...but the heck did you write on under your avatar there Buch? The plot of Top Gun, idiot.

Putting aside the question of his existence for sake of the forum, talking to God is a bit tricky all round, being as it is indistinguishable from *thinking* you're talking to God. Nobody ever seems to get off of one of these conversations where God tells them to kill everybody / confirms his existence / helps them think about their problems and then thinks, "Nahhh, probably my imagination."
Gorvar. I don't know what your problem is. I have seen the trailers.

The non ME gaming thread got a little side tracked here.
If we want to keep talking about the crusades and other renaissance era stuff (and who wouldn't) let's do it here.

OK, I recused myself from this in the hopes I would have less of a mess to clean up if I didn't add to it. Bah! That didn't work.
NEar as I can tell, Europe was happy in the delusion that they were the center and pinnacle of culture and advancement back in the dark ages and not bothering anyone until the Moors invaded multiple times starting in the period of Charlemagne. They had all of Spain under their boot and were trying to push north. Also they were forcibly converting everyone they could get their hands on to Islam as islam was mandating them to do. This is on the historical record. They were eventually pushed back out but it took a few generations. the Middle East pretty much was the center of culture in the world until some idiot Imam decided that mathematics (which they invented ) was the tool of the devil.
Now that little stretch of land is important to every western religion out there. Pilgrimages to holy sites are regarded as being really important to the faithful and Christians were being barred access by the rulers down there. This was the excuse that whichever Pope it was used to declare open season on the Muslims. Every attempt to peacefully set up access to these places failed for hundreds of years afterwards as a result of assholes on both sides of the divide. Anyone who spoke of peace on either side was treated as if they were lepers.
Both Europe and the middle East were aggressors to each other. but while we have largely forgiven the transgressions of the Moors, the militants are still holding the Crusades over our heads when they were partially at fault for them continuing.
No one was wearing a white hat, and no, our black hat was not blacker than the theirs.

What's even more fucked up about the Moor's aggression (as well as today's militants) is that the Koran clearly spells it out that Jews and Christians are NOT to be attacked as Jews, Christians, and Muslims all follow the same God (the People of the book, the suras [islamic scriptures] call us). Very nice how they forget that bit since it's clearly spelled out and there is no possible "loophole" to be exploited.

There is also a convention in Islam that the later writings of Mohammed override the earlier ones. The earlier peaceful writings are therefore overshadowed by the later more militant parts. He contradicted himself a few times and they reconciled it by this convention.

There was a time on this site when I used to enjoy being here and like at least 10% of the things people posted. Long time ago, now.

Was that the time before everyone had Top Gun avatars and usernames when I could tell who I was talking to?

Before that, even. Remember those days when people used to have a laugh rather than compete for turf in A-Level history essay contests? People always said the site was so friendly.

It still is. We are just more diverse now. With that diversity comes more debate.
We are usually civil about it. When we aren't we generally apologize and move on. It's actually been weeks since anything got truly nasty here. It actually looks to me like we have gotten over one of our worse growing pains here.
the community is growing. there is good in that and bad. I'm trying to enjoy both.
