I fell down the stairs at work tonight on my way out of the office. I fell from the top of the staircase, and landed at the bottom, hitting my head on the cement floor at the end. Oddly enough - so far, it seems as if I have no actual head damage. My legs and hips, on the other hand, hurt like a mofo. My leg ended up badly bruised and torn up; it stings and throbs like crazy - but mercifully not broken. Less than two weeks before the wedding, and I am falling down stairs, risking broken bones? What the hell, Fates?? I think the first aid manager at work who came to my rescue was amused at my reaction - as I seemed to be more upset about the fact that my favorite dress got torn all to hell on the way down the stairs, tearing a massive slit up the side from the bottom of the skirt all the way up to my hip - somehow I managed to keep from flashing the office on my way out at the end... lol. Now that I've gotten that bit of clumsiness out of the way, we'll see if I can make it to my wedding day without breaking any other part of me. Wish me luck...

Jeeesus, Lily. I still have a faint memory for when I fell down the stairs at age four-five or so. I was barely conscious after it happened, but I remember my mom yelling at me to see if I was okay when it happened. Wow... didn't think about that for a long time... sorta forgot it even happened.

I was barely conscious after it happened, but I remember my mom yelling at me to see if I was okay when it happened. Wow... didn't think about that for a long time... sorta forgot it even happened. This is actually my second time taking a nasty tumble down a flight of stairs - I did a similar thing when I was 13; I fell down a flight of stairs at school - crashed head-first into a cement wall, and broke my ankle. Again, like this time, I felt more pain from my leg than from my head - and at that time, like this time, suffered no head injury despite smacking head-first onto a cement surface. This time, it felt like one of those slow-motion falls, where my life flashed before my eyes as I fell - or rather, as I was falling, I had time to think "Well shit, I can NOT afford to break this soon before the wedding!" and I remember trying to catch myself on the railing, and twisting around so I ended up falling nearly back-wards down the stairs. Tore up the front of my leg, but landed on my back - with the back of my head hitting the floor. Sounds like you had a rather nasty fall, if you remember not being altogether conscious afterward... I hope you weren't too badly hurt then?

Update: Went to the doctor today, due to still being in a lot of pain and having mild dizzy spells off and on. Turns out, I do actually have a very mild concussion. Yay. I've never actually had any injuries of this nature before, so this freaks me out a little. At least my doctor seems assured, and reassured me, than I can still go to work and not have to miss time for my head-hurt. Maybe the bruising on my leg will go away in time so I won't be ugly on my wedding day in a week and a half. We'll see.

Well not to me but this was a pretty shitty thing that happened to my mother. Her apartment was broken into yesterday morning, her purse rifled through and her ID and cash stolen.
Thankfully she was not harmed, nor even woken up for this. They came in though her window. I'm fairly pissed at this. She is a pensioner that does not have a whole hell of a lot to steal. I hope whatever drugs they buy with that money is laced with some nasty shit that gives them a real bad trip because anyone who would steal from a 70 year old woman living alone needs to have their nuts removed.
As a side note, and not even remotely my first concern, the money that was stolen was for the flowers for the wedding this week that Mom is arranging for.

Christ, Linders. That's rough. Glad she's okay, though.

Me too. That punk should be praying to Beelzebub I never find out who he is. Not even Cthulhu can assure his safety if I do. She is keeping her windows closed at night now regardless of the heat.
Fuck I hate this city sometimes.

Update on the Robbery situation - apparently, the little bastard was caught today. Unfortunately, the stolen money and ID and stuff was not recovered, but... the little bastard is caught.
Hopefully he gets a proper punishment - I'm guessing since he was found so quickly, he must have been known to police - so, maybe he has a record, and maybe this will be the 'last straw' and he'll end up locked up...

I hate being hurt. It turns out my leg is actually more damaged than I thought - the bruising has spread wider than I thought it should (there is a ring-like bruise now around my ankle that makes it look like someone tied a rope around my ankle and hung me from it, and two of my toes are bruised), and my leg is still massively swollen - and now the shin area is sort of red and shiny. I went back to my doctor today, and he said the leg is now infected and he gave me antibiotics to knock down the infection. He also gave me orders to lay down with my leg elevated as much as possible for the next few days or so - here, only three days to the wedding, and I have so much to do that I can't reasonably be laying around doing nothing. Dammit. I hate my broken self.

I think my Kobo Touch e-reader has finally given up the ghost - I got it as a gift for Christmas 2012, and have had no problems with it until now, but all of a sudden I can't use it - yesterday afternoon the screen froze as I was reading a new book, and I could neither go to the next page or the previous page, and I could not go to the Home Screen or turn off the Kobo. I looked up troubleshooting tips on Kobo's website, and did a Basic Reset, which worked for all of 10 minutes, then froze again; so I then did a full Master Factory Reset - and that seemed to work long enough to get a few more pages read - but then this morning it is once again frozen and unresponsive.
Does anyone else on this forum use an e-reader, and if so, what is the average life-span of an E-Reader tablet? Is it logical that mine should die after almost 3 years, or should it have lasted longer? The agent at the store when I called was rather unhelpful - he said "Well, some people have them for two years, some for ten years." Thanks - that's very enlightening.
I'm a little saddened by this, especially since I just acquired the book "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" by George R R Martin and only managed to read the first of the three parts in that collection. I want to know what happens next to Dunk and Egg!

I hear you about broken down tech. A few months ago I lost my Cintiq Companion to a faulty design that I can't even DIY fix it. I'm not sure if Wacom is going to accept it when I ship back, let alone fix the thing.
The painful part it's expensive and it's the only tablet/laptop it will tolerate my finicky artistic needs.
So the e-book. It all depends, the quality and how the user is maintaining the device. Sometimes a e-book would be having a short lifespan due to bad engineer design they put in. Again, My Cintiq should lasted me at least 5 years or more if I took care of it like a kids glove. Which I did, but due to Wacom not thinking through about that one battery plugin design makes it fragile to the point it gets loosen, so you can't recharge or breaks. Either way it gets broken a lot sooner. So my advice is google your e-book model and look around to see if people have similar complaints as yours.

I did that, after I posted here, I did a google search and found that apparently enough people have the same issue that I think it's just that the lifespan of my Kobo ended... When I told my mother about my Kobo's regrettable death, and mentioned that I could not justify putting out the money to buy a new one anytime soon, she said "Besides, Christmas is coming in less than three months..." so I think I might get a new one for Christmas - I hope... The one I had until now was a gift she gave me for Christmas a few years ago... Anyway, at least I still have my Harry Potter books in physical form, I am not left book-less for the time being... that would be horrible, for one who reads as often as I do...

I lost my passport. That one thing that is my ID and I really needed as the due date for Uni application is getting closer.
Seriously, I'll never get anything right, even if it something simple as trying to get my own shit back together. Right now, I feel like a washout. And 29.
Shit.

Well, that sucks... sorry to hear it, I hope you get your passport back soon... and it sounds like you're having a rough time, I hope things get better for you soon... In the meantime, here's a cute kitten to hopefully make you smile:

Thanks Lily. Also I found my passport and I might make it on time if I apply for the 1st quarter session for 2016. So I'll go for that one instead.
Also more bad news, after getting one thing right: The internet is being shit lately. Like the speed is probably just as bad as somewhere in Central Africa. I know it's must have something to do with the weather, since we've been getting a massive thunderstorms for the past few days. So I've checked to see if I was the only one who this issue. Turns out not only it's been problematic for most people in my area, but I've just learn that the northern part of Melbourne has been hit with a tornado. It's not as big as the ones in the U.S but a tornado is a tornado.
Well, time to go downtown and by a new hard drive for back up tomorrow. Better safe than sorry.
