I have not yet finished Mass Effect 1, though I am getting closer... but so far I have to say I really like Ashley for her love towards her family (I loved her reminiscence about her family, and her younger sister specifically - I liked her protectiveness) and Tali (because she's just so damnably adorable) and Joker, for his snark... and Garrus for his determination... but my favorite companions to take with me on missions are Tali and Garrus. That's my Dream Team, so to speak - Shepard, Tali and Garrus.
We'll see if my preferences change when I start in on ME2 and ME3 - if my favorites change. I know I like Jack, though, just based on what little I've seen of her from watching JKLinders play ME2...

That's cool that Tali and Garrus are the dream team, since they are the two who will be with you in all three games.
And because they're both awesome.

I think I might have a little game-crush on them both - Tali is just adorable, and Garrus is kind of... well, sexy for a fictional non-human... I like his attitude...

I don't like his attitude - up until Mass Effect 3 I consider Garrus a rash, childish, unstable guy who's much more concerned with looking good and proving points than doing his job. He's the buffoon who endangers a civillian's life in his very second scene, and then spends both of his personal sidequests attempting to murder people who upset his pride, preferably in public places. In ME3 he really seems to have turned around and become calm, at peace. Smart, and without that need for a superior's approval. I liked that a lot. It was especially satisfying to see Garrus council Shepard and command refugee aid after I had spent so long trying to mentor him. Or at least, to stop grinning at me with his legs open. His story arc comes to a great conclusion, I think. Brandon Keener does a superb job all three times, as well. Gives a lot of 'range' to the character. And he has a sexy voice.

That was actually not the attitude I was referring to though... and I am not sure how to explain it; I just like how he talks to my Jane Shepard. Something about his voice, I think... Or at least, to stop grinning at me with his legs open. Eh? Dare I ask? *raises one eyebrow* My dear Buch, sometimes you make me wonder... Yes. He does. Very much so. ;D

Been playing Mass Effect 1 lately, and talking about it a lot. So I'll just put Kaidan Alenko up here too. He has a lot of great character stuff and unusual conversations in the first game. The Canadian Steak Sandwich scene in ME3 is good too, in the same ways, but pretty much just that scene.
I love how the guy seems so distanced from everyone else on the ship and indeed every other Bioware party member. Like Jolee Bindo perhaps, he has this calm detachment and lack of major personality flaws or story arc. He's just a calm, smart, interesting guy. Feels like Shepard's equal here in the same way that Garrus does in part 3.
--
KAIDAN: Input? Hell, I don't know. We're fighting giant machines from outside the galaxy. Should I be afraid of them? In awe? It just seems like anything that's been alive for so long...
SHEPARD: We're like ants to them. But humans have never managed to exterminate ants.
KAIDAN: Makes you wonder, if ants are any more aware than we were. Of the giants that walk over their heads.

Here's one from pokemon, again. N from the Black and White games. He's your antagonist and rival of the game and he comes across as the sympathetic sort, due to his goal was to free all pokemons from their master's leash. And we're not counting the tragic backwstory he had, which I won't get into it since it's veers into major spoiler territory for anyone who HASN'T played the game and were interested still. And he a good foil to your character. Not only he has a likable personality and achknowledging how good you are as a trainer, but also like any good foil to your character, his skills are far from being a joke. A slight spoiler here: Not only he managed to beat it to you first in catching a legendary pokemon mascot, but also he managed to also beat the master trainer in end game. And not even being smug or sweating about it. Just being calm and collected. Very unerving. I have to say he's one of the well-written characters that Nintendo did in the recent times.

SHODAN fom System Shock. 'Nuff said. This, this, this, this, this and this a thousand times over. Also, The Jackal from Far Cry 2 When I first heard the Jackal talk, speaking erroneously fast, I assumed it was a sign that he was losing it, which I liked. I love mentally unstable characters. Then it just happened to turn out that every, single, character in Far Cry 2 talked like Blur from the Transformers movie. I heard there was some silly bureaucratic/technical reason for this on UbiSoft's part, but I never really read up on it. That well aside, this doesn't change the fact that The Jackal is one of the best written and acted villains in vidya. There's a whole farm of great quotes from the guy floating around on wikiquote and IMDB. Check them out, they really rival some of Colonel Kurtz' world weary monologues from Apocalypse Now.

So I'm almost done with Assassin's Creed 3, and I've come to realise I like Haytham, Connor's father, a damn lot more than the actual protagonist.
He's a cool, witty, badass English gentleman, and he arguably has more depth than Connor himself. Whoever's doing the voice acting for him is doing a great job, as well. (I was sure he was voiced by Anthony Head for ages.)
Spoilers: That plot twist about his true nature, too... I loved how it set up that the Templars of AC3 are way more well-meaning and noble than the ones from the Ezio games.
The missions where Connor teams up with him are probably the best, funniest and most interesting in the game, too (barring the ones based on the major historical events). They reminded me a little bit of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Not clicking on the spoilers because I'm trying to catch up the whole AC series, starting with AC2.
Speaking of which, is it me or Leonardo is a likeable character in his own right? In real life I do find him interesting enough that he's was the actual basic inspiration of my current webcomic, but AC2 took that up to 11 for me.

Which is good, because you'll be seeing a lot of him.

Nice, nice. Bro hugs for all then. Something I'm looking forward to.
And don't get me started on Ezio. I can see why Glow talked favorably about him in the past. Even I haven't got that far into certain parts of the game where I've heard his character developed later on, I seemed to like him more as a player protagonist than Shepard. Yeah, I like him better than FemShep honestly.
However I'm being unfair here since Shepard was designed to be a template character, rather than a fully written character that is set in the stone, like Ezio.
Still, it's a joy to play someone that is likable and colourful in a game for once. Don't care if Ezio is the type that gets around, I wouldn't have him at any other way, as a player character.
