MorteFrom Planescape Torment There aren't many things more irritating than a talking, floating skull that speaks like a Guido from New Jersey. I don't think the term "chief" has anything to do with the nameless one being or looking like a chieftain. Rosh PeninFrom Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy Oh where to start with Rosh... he's a spaz, he speaks like a Canadian little league hockey announcer, he complains and overreacts about stupid things, and he's basically Jar Jar Binks in human form. Everybody who's played Jedi Academy very well knows why Rosh would be on this list. The players were also infinitely baffled at why Jaden (the player character) actually considered him his/her best friend. Had the players had a choice about this, I'm willing to bet that Rosh would be a very, very lonely Jedi. Anybody got any additions?

WynneFrom Dragon Age: Origins The game does it's best to set her up as The Warden's mentor. She shows up a few times before she joins the party. It's fine until then, when she follows you around and tries to act the sage. Really, just listen to her advice sometime! All she says is stuff like "As a Grey Warden, your duty is to the people of this land!" Really(?) I thought I was travelling the country, fighting injustice and building an army so they could watch me sit about in the camp and do sod all(!) She's a terrible mentor (I think the writers were watching Spider-Man 1 the day they wrote her, because half the shit she says amounts to "With great power comes great responsibility!"), a patronising hypocrite (nagging on you about your romance and how it isn't appropriate, even though she herself got pregnant during her life in the Circle (I could understand if she used what happened to her as an example of why such things can be bad, but she doesn't)) and the game still paints her as some sort of wise moral authority!

Her machine gun is too quick and the other thing...gah!

Wynne had a kid? Was that in the fiction or something, because I talked her up and never heard about that.

She did mention it while having one of those random talks with Alistair. Check it up on DA wiki, it has proof.
As for obnoxious characters... oh dear. I met quite a few in my lifetime in gaming... Quara from NWN2. All that talk about blowing stuff up and acting like a typical upper class twit, really grate on my nerves, especially all that talk about forcing to held her powers back. Yes, while there are a few characters that does bitched about being pulled back (Hello Garrus!), she's the only party member I can't reason with. She just blocks her ears and blows more stuff up, didn't care if all that blowing stuff up will bit her in the ass (which it did, according to the MotB expansion). Oh despite her being Chaotic neutral alignment, she's sounded more and more like evil neutral. One of the weakest character write ups from Obsidian.
The actual weakest character imo goes to Casavir in NWN2. All that knight in shining armour cliche... just made me want to baff. And he's the only romance option for the goody two shoe characters. Thank goodness for MotB.
Roy Earle from LA Noire. He's a smug snake, that is all. To be fair, the writers intend to have him as a smug snake, so that kinda cross off the list. You gotta have assholes in stories, especially gaming. Otherwise it's not all that fun.
The new faction leaders in WoW. I don't care if I'm an Alliance or Horde, I just want to tell the both of them to go and fuck themselves, while joining the Argent Crusade and go neutral instead. Both of them are warmongering whiny brats, who should have win the Darwin awards, considering all that nonsense faction rivalry shanagians, while the whole Azeroth planet is on the verge of being torn apart from some sort of shitstorm. Oh and btw, they had being doing this since WotLK expansion, almost failing to stop an in coming blight if it weren't for the Argent Crusade rag tags and Freethinking Death Knights teaming up to kick Arthas ass for good.
That's all I could think of. I'm sure there's more as soon my memory comes back...

Professor Macdougal from Red Dead Redemption. Where the hell do I start with this guy. He uses drugs (the proper in your VEINS type, a la Prof Frink) and he is twitchy as all hell. He's a friggin' racist towards native Americans and and never. shuts. the. fuck. up. He also ends up getting my native american friend killed! www.youtube.com/watch?v=u191FXrhG38&feature=related Stupid college abstard...Wait...

Couldn't disagree more about Wynne! She was by far my favourite character in Origins, and never seemed like she was judging me or setting herself up as a moral authority. It always seemed to me like she was a 'mother' not a mentor - just someone who kinda liked you and just worried about you and habitually self-sacrificed. Also well said about Rosh Penin. "KAYYULL doesn't seem to appreciate my talents!" He must be the only Jedi who turned to the dark side through sheer childishness. But then, all the villains in the Jedi Knight series were ridiculous (except that one Imperial with the cortosis robot suit, he was cool.) To counter the Wynne thing, I'll add the only character in Origins I disliked. There he is. He was like that one guy in college who is desperately lonely and tries to impress everyone by going out to bars every night and exaggerating his drunkeness to be funny, endlessly bragging for weeks afterwards about how crazy he is and how he 'couldn't remember anything' the next morning even though he won't shut up about the events of that night. Ooh, I'm so crazy and funny, ha ha, please like me. Kind of like me, but - worse. I really didn't like Oghren. He's badly-drawn, he's badly-acted, he doesn't understand the correct use of the English slang 'sod', his side-quest involves helping him fool a girl into dating him when she obviously has no interest in him (and for good reason)...... and he's so incredibly not funny.

At least Oghren is amusing enough that I can tolerate him in the party, compare to say... almost all the party members in DA2, except for Varric, Isabella and to some extent, Aveline. (After you did her personal quest, involving helping her to woo her man.)
I'm not going to say anymore about this game, clearly it's really depends on personal taste.

It is always a matter of taste, to be sure, and I realise my love of Varric, Anders, Aveline and maybe Fenris is not the popular opinion, so fair enough!
But honestly, just for argument's sake - I would also add Isabella to the list of obnoxious characters.

And for extra argument sake, I wish I had the option to give Anders a good smack at the back of his skull, every time he bitches about being oppressed for like... the millionth time. Yeah, hypocritical when I also bitch a lot but at least I'll try to make it amusing as I could. Oh, if he's going to bitch again, he better make it amusing too, the same topic he natters about all the time started to grate my ears.
And yes, he's on my obnoxious character list as well.
