Dude, wait for the Steam Sales, you can usually pick up the most recent telltale game for less than $10. Obviously this one, you might have to wait for the summer sale, but you have DA: I and Witcher first.

I have about as much interest in this game as Lily has in playing an MMO. Meaning, I'm curious but not going to actually play.

Are the combat bits turn-based? Do they play out like the ones in Dragon Age Origins (which I observed Linders playing)? Or is it like Mass Effect, or Skyrim, where you can just swing your weapons and not wait your turn, and you don't have to pick / highlight your target?
I am rather interested in the game, but... I also find the concept of the first few Assassin's Creed games, and the Dragon Age series fascinating - but I can't get my head around the game-play mechanics... so I'm not sure if I could handle Telltale's Game of Thrones...

It's quick time event based. Meaning rather than positioning characters and selecting attacks, combat normally comes down to cinematic scenes where you're mashing certain keys rapidly to struggle, or moving the cursor to a certain point on the screen to attack. Fights in GoT are basically identical to this.

It is pretty easy as well Lily, you'll be fine. It's really hard to fail these.

I wasn't so much concerned about failing the game or anything - I just have a thing about gameplay mechanics and controls - I tried to get into Assassin's Creed but couldn't get around the controls. Similar issue with Star Wars The Old Republic (or whatever SW game it was that Linders let me try on his computer).
I liked Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls for the freedom of movement and the fighting controls.
I may buy Game of Thrones when it goes on sale in Steam, but I have plenty of time to think about it.
Another question - I get that the Telltale games are episode style - can you play them multiple times? I assume yes, and this is probably a silly question that will expose me for the gaming idiot I really am, but... I was curious if the episodic nature made it really different and in what way.

Telltale games are much more "zone explore" and less complicated than the AC series. Cut scene, decision, zone to explore, with a final option to move the story forward.
You can re-play the episodes, but the only reason to do that would be to see the different consequences of the decisions you make. I personally haven't found them to be all that re-playable. But since I get them cheap, they're usually worth it to me.

It's a good thing Robin Atkin Downes is in this game, because The Forrester's got played like a damn fiddle.

I dunno about you but the Forresters in my playthrough are fucking North to the core. We aint taking shit from no-one! Not Cersei, not Ramsey, not Fatarse the jackass. ...
Does anyone else give different personalities to their pov characters? Except for Mira who is a clever girl up untill she has her back against the wall, both Ethan and Garret are very in your face. Well Ethan is more political and thinks about it first....Garret calls you an arse and bashes your face in with a shield.
