Hi, I'm Quad, new here! I hope to post some semi-decent Mass Effect fanfiction here, hone my craft, improve over time with input from the community here... and I even hope to make some friends.
It's wonderful to meet you all.

Welcome to the crew, Quadrophenia! Always good having new members aboard. Lord knows we could use some more material in the fanfiction section. The area's been a tad slow lately. Looking forward to seeing what you've got for us!

Are crossovers acceptable? I have three stories in mind, the first is on its own and the other two are part of a series.
The first is a crossover with Doctor Who. The summary: During the events of the first Mass Effect, the crew find the Doctor in a state of suspended animation. Hilarity ensues.
The other two will be the start of a homage to classic films. Given Mass Effect's rich history and the adventurous lifestyles of the protagonists (each of whom could have their own stories), I had the idea of incorporating plot elements of some of my favourite films.
One would focus on Garrus's rise to infamy as Archangel. There will be two main plots, one showcasing how Garrus became Archangel and how he pissed off all the major crime syndicates on Omega, and the other recounts his days as a C-Sec officer before meeting up with Shepard. These two plots take influence from the following classic films: The French Connection, Chinatown, Dirty Harry, Death Wish, Taxi Driver and Yojimbo.
The other, on one of Samara's many adventures in her long lived career as a Justicar. I figured her backstory could provide ample fuel for fanfics, and so I had a little daydream that revolved around Samara leading a band of six other wandering warriors protecting a settlement from a horde of mercs/slavers.
Yes, it's the Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai.
What do you think?

Man, I really need to start getting into Dr. Who. Sounds right up my alley, since I love weird Sci-Fis. Needless to say, I probably won't understand the material if it was made. Oh HELL yes! Your taste in movies is absolutely delicious, Quad. I actually based the character for my WarCraft fanfic after J.J. Gittes, and one of the characters from Cyan Steel, my current Mass Effect fanfic is based off a mixture of Travis Bickle, John Rambo, and Riddick (only a lot easier to get along with than any of those three). On a latter note, I absolutely adore Akira Kurosawa's films. Yojimbo, Sanjoro, Seven Samurai, and Hidden Fortress are four of my favorite movies of all time. To me, a garrus noir/Yojimbo-esque fic is the best idea ever in my book. Also a GREAT idea! I actually have been wanting to make a few fanfics based off of Kurosawa's material ever since I first saw his movies. One of the ideas was an Elder Scrolls story where the main character enters a town in southeast Cyrodiil and finds it is plunged in war between the Commana Tong, Nordic Mob, and Khajiit gang. Yojimbo stuff. Anyway, definitely work on those. I'll be sure to read and review them! Also sorry if I'm coming across as too bubbly, but I don't know many other people who are also fans of Kurosawa and Film Noir.

My friend, I react the same way around other people who are fans of the classics. It's one thing to befriend another guy who likes classic rock like The Beatles, or The Doors, classic rock is still quite popular. But how many have watched Seven Samurai, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Chinatown, Unforgiven...
Anyway, the bit with Yojimbo as an influence for my Garrus fanfic would boil down to the classic plot element of Garrus going undercover as a bodyguard for some of the criminal organizations and pitting them against one another. But for the Chinatown twist, one of the bosses (Aria) finds him out and outplays him.
I figured Garrus would make a perfect Film Noir protagonist. Dark background, snarky, a sexy voice (it is a prerequisite for Film Noir men to have attractive audio erotica for voices, from Bogart to Nicholson to anime characters like Spike Spiegel), on the lamb, on self-imposed social isolation...
I reiterate, perfect.
As for Samara... she makes for the perfect "wandering samurai/gunslinger/knight errant" archetype. A thousand year old travelling warrior. Her demeanour strikes me as "Clint Eastwood, if he were a woman, a Buddhist and a dominatrix." Hence, her story will feature countless references to classic westerns, spaghetti westerns, neo-westerns like No Country For Old Men (Morinth will serve the role as the closest equivalent to Anton Chigurh) and samurai classics like Zatoichi.
Then again, the same could be said about Zaeed, but Zaeed never struck me as much of an anti-hero so much as... well, a hired gun. Zaeed looks like he would fit the traditional mould, but as a feminist I want to expand on Samara's character and have her assume the reigns of conventional male tough guy roles.
She was one of my favourite ME2 characters, just for being calm, serene, collected... and something of an ethical sociopath. Like Dexter, in red leather and with tits.
My only issue with the "Samara leading a Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai" story is the creation of the OC's... I'm always paranoid any OC I will create, hero, villain or anti-hero, will transform into a Sue... my first instinct was to create it as an RP, but every RP I make never finishes, so I've opted to transform it into a fanfic instead.

Well, Quad, I'm always available if you ever need any help brainstorming titles, or ever wanna do a collaborative writing project. I actually wanted to do one with Mister Buch, but the man is super busy for all the right reasons.
Lookin' forward to the possible flow of stories.

I absolutely appreciate that.
Speaking of title suggestions, hey, how do these sound?
For the Garrus fic. "Dance Cadaverous," "The Serpent's Edge," "Cat's Cradle," "Angels Will Fall."
For the Samara fic. "The Big Gundown," "Lucky Numbers," "Seven Chances," "Just Seven?"
And Cali (I have another friend named Cali, incidentally), I would love to work with someone on either of these projects. I even think it would be more fun writing Samara's story with a number of the other people so we can pull our unique OC's together to create a badass team that might even make future reappearances in ME Fanfic history.

Not sure about the Garrus one, but I do rather like "The Big Gundown" and "Lucky Numbers" for Samara's story.
Anyway, I'll be gone from tomorrow morning to tomorrow afternoon, but we can probably try to organize some stuff later on. If you have an MSN or Skype account, PM me and we can talk sometime.
As for this other Cali, that's quite a funny little coincidence. =D

Nice to meet you, pal. Looks like you've got some good ideas I can steal (seriously though, I don't write.) You seem to have a lot in common with some of our other members (me included), so I'm glad to have you on the site. I know what it's like to never be able to finish a RP, too. Boy do I ever...

One would focus on Garrus's rise to infamy as Archangel. Damn you. I was going to do that. ... Ah, who am I kidding, no I wasn't. The thought occurred to me, but I never get anything done... -_- In all seriousness, welcome to the site! Glad to meet you. I look forward to seeing what you do, in all honesty.
