... completed ME2 on Insanity.
The end battle against the Reaper was insultingly easy. I think I lost shields once, and only then because Harbinger is a wanker. Well... either it was easy, or I'm just *that* damn good. If I say so myself. Which I do; well done me.
I lost Miranda, because she was having a sulk about Jack and I needed 100% paragon points to persuade her. I reached about 97% before I ran out of options to actually gain points. Annoying. Lead to the creation of the phrase "There aren't enough points in the galaxy to stop Miranda sulking!" which was a cause for lulz in my house.
Anyway - the point is, I am amazing and you should be in awe.

Cool. I usually play on the lower difficulties but I am working on a Veteran run right now. I'll decide after I'm finished that if I want to fart around with Hardcore or Insanity. I find I am running out of snipe ammo really quickly and have to rely more on the heavy pistol to finish folks off. There should be an option to talk with the character whose side you did not take in these catfights/spats afterwards. There you can basically try to smooth things over. It's not about how much Paragon/Renegade you have but the percentage of Paragon/Renegade opportunities you used in the game. It's actually a little messed up in how they scaled it. I hope they fix it for the third game because it is confusing the way they have it right now.

You've got serious balls, Rascarin. Uh... metaphorically speaking.
Anyway, I constantly fail at Insanity. Fighting Vorcha, (especially with their freaking flamethrowers) on anything above normal is freaking irritating.

You can try and talk to them afterwards - you just need a ridiculously high paragon/renegade score to do it. Grrrr. And I gotta say - I wouldn't recommend anything other than a soldier class for Insanity. The most important thing is staying alive, and using squad members for powers like Overload, Warp etc. A soldier lets you get a tonne of health bonuses, as well as that absolutely lethal assault rifle once you hit the collector ship.
In fact, I found that having a person who could use those two absolutely invaluable. An enemy will either have armour, a barrier, or shields. Warp can take down armour and barriers, overload deals with shields. After that, its a simple matter to wap on Adrenaline rush, pop out of cover and shoot the heck out of an unprotected enemy.
Insanity also really lets you appreciate the value of research. If you have an underpowered team, you feel it. Again, and again, and again.
Another tip - save after EVERY fight.

Very impressive! I've tried finishing the game in Hardcore (I play an adept) but would always get swamped on Horizon. Damn husks!

I bow to your superior skillz Rascarin. Was that on a PC or the X-box? I've had a bit of a play on both now (playing Halo, not ME 1 or 2) and just can't get the hang of the controls. Give me a mouse and keyboard any day.

Ditto Omma. PC rules.
I applaud your feat Rascarin, I gave up on that idea before I started. One play through on Veteran was hard enough.

That's probably my problem. That I cannot handle the console controllers worth bantha poodoo.
I should really consider getting the PC versions of Mass Effect 1 and 2, which look a lot better. I mean, I have a PC that can run it. I guess the only thing back is the thought of losing all that DLC and general progress.

Its actually not too bad, the first 1/3 of the game is the most difficult imo. But once youve built up some of your party's skills and gotten some good equipment, the difficulty actually settles down. You just gotta remember to use all powers (never trust your squad to use em, you need to do it yourself) and cycle cover like mad.
edit:my insanity run was with a sentinel, i highly recommend a defensive skill as a kind of 'oh shit' cooldown, with me it was tech armor, but picking up geth shield boost would work too.

I played with a character I'd already got a playthrough with, so I started with all my squad mates levelled up. Which helped. And you keep the weapon you get off the collector ship, so you have that at the beginning too - which is unbelievably useful.
I found the most difficult bit: A) immediately after you spring the trap on the Collector ship. Facing off against two scions and god-knows how many Harbingers took bloody forever to do B) the plague zone on Omega. Vorcha with flamethrowers - ARGH c) The dantius towers - not too difficult in themselves, but there was one section where you had to clear practically an entire floor without being able to save the game. Which meant just a spell of bad luck sent you right back to the beginning.
Also trying to keep archangel alive was a bloody hassle, mostly because all friendly units suffer from terminal stupidity, and garrus just LOVES to stand wherever the most bullets are.
I've toned it down to hardcore for my Shadow Broker playthrough, though. I couldn't kill Vasir on Insanity, and I can do it on hardcore and still get the achievement. That's still a WIP atm.

I've never played Insanity, but I agree the trap on the Collector ship is ridiculously difficult.

I was content to let everyone die in my Insanity playthrough. Never got that far, sadly.
