I was wondering... is anyone else excited about this upcoming HBO series? www.hbo.com/game-of-throneswww.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/For the uninitiated (are there any?) it's based on G.R.R.Martin's A song of Fire and Ice book series, which is probably best described as very grim and gritty fantasy spanning a large world, many characters, all tangled in a labyrinthine plot. G.R.R. Martin is involved in the project himself (which means the plot and feel will be faithful to the books), and by the look of it they're doing a terrific job creating the whole setting. I'm really looking forward to it. It's airing on 17 April. Trailer/teaser:

Anything staring Sean Bean deserves such hype. But this does look very good. I still have a copy of A Game of Thrones sitting on my shelf. Read a decent chunk of it, but then I started on the Wheel of Time...and then eventually neither of them got read.
I do want to read it before the series premieres, though, and then I guess I can sit down and wait for A Dance with Dragons along with everyone else in the world. xD

For the record, I have no idea what either of you are on about. But I do agree about Sean Bean!

Buch & Knight: the books are a good read. Do give them a try. I devoured them all in a matter of days. Btw, do I see a bit of typecasting of Sean Bean as a medieval warrior? First LotR, then this series, and the other day I came across this trailer of Black Death as well: www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2443418393/

G.R.R Martin is involved with the mini series? Sounds promising, hopefully the series would be aired on Australian TV, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Sean Bean as Eddard Stark... ho boy. No, no. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but... if you read the books you can see why I'm a little concern about it. All I can say what's with type casting him as a tragic figure. No, I'm not going to say what happens in the book.

There was Oblivion too, but that really doesn't count, seeing as how he was neither a brave warrior or ruggedly handsome and attractive. He did die though, maybe...
I like the sound of this though. In the meantime, I need to watch more Sharpe...

To anyone who hasn't read the "A Song of Ice & Fire" series: GO READ IT!!!! Awesome stuff.
FYI Don't be expecting a conclusion anytime soon, as the author has made it very clear "You'll get it when you get it"

He's taking his sweet time to finish those books, that's for sure... As long he does a good job and doesn't die before he managed to reach the last installment, fine by me.

Don't expect happy endings though, for most of the characters. It's gritty, dark, violent and very entertaining. I'm jumping up and down waiting for this to be released!

Just saw the pilot episode. It was pretty damn faithful to the books so far and very well done for a TV production. They seemed to have aged up the Stark kids a bit as well as Dany. I swear the set designers were pulling images out of my head as Winterfell and what little I saw of Kings Landing looked exactly as I pictured them.
Anybody else seen it yet?

I'm not surprised they aged it up a little. Though Sansa is still "13" according to the dinner scene. Hard to justify nude shots (a staple of HBO, one thoroughly provided for by Martin) when your female protagonists are underage. Doesn't mean I approve, but I get it.
Roman - If you're amenable to the opportunity, I know means of access I can describe via private message.
Almost completely unrelated side note: I will never be able to look at Shakespeare quite the same again. Read through Romeo & Juliet with a group today, and it says clearly that the character of Juliet is 13 years old. Romeo it doesn't say, but he's old enough to be chasing tail, as the whole reason he even meets her is to stalk his ex.

It is suggested that Romeo is pretty young too though as you said never outright said. Frankly the Stark kids to a lesser extent and Dany to a greater extent are too damn young for the crap they are doing. Though a nobleman's arms training started as soon as the young one was able to heft a sword, consummated marriages at the tender age of 13 would have been pretty damn rare. If it happened at all.

EDIT: THANKS GLOW U R AWESUM
Wait, is it only the characters who are too young? Or are the actors/actresses too young? If the latter, wouldn't that be illegal in some way or another...? Is HBO breaking laws/violating universal moral principles now?
