Have you ever made the claim that the new Star Wars prequels were an attempt at ruining your childhood? Then this hour and a half, absolutely scathing review of Star Wars: Episode III will be music to your ears: www.redlettermedia.com/sith.htmlThe way this guy goes about things is pretty odd, but the shit that he notices about these movies is absolutely brilliant. He pretty much ruined this movie for me. xD

Ohhh he did one for episode three?!
Awesome. I loved his reviews of the other two. They were wierd for sure, but also as you say extremely insightful, thoughtful and once or twice quite moving. There's a bit in his Episode 2 review where he cuts scenes from the prequels with Yoda's speech about the Force from Empire. Everything from the new movies in a direct contradiction and it's honestly very sad.
I'm going to get some drinks and enjoy this.

The prequel trilogy is over, Anakin! Don't try to make fun of it! I have the high ground!
I flipping love Revenge of the Sith! It's not a good Star Wars movie, but it is bloody hilarious!

I have to say - I like Revenge of the Sith. Like I keep telling people about Tron: Legacy - it's not a good movie, but it's fun. There is a heart to it - some emotional connection and dramatic tension hidden under all that rubbish. I don't like Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones, because there's just nothing there. Sith - I care about that ludecrous lava fight enough to pretend it matters.
So with that in mind, I think this review was just a bit less cutting than usual. Occasionally I actually disagreed with the guy - a first - for instance, 'Hayden Christensen's not a bad actor'.
But he made some damned good points, there. And I laughed a lot ;D

Actually... I did get a bit sad at the end when he clashed Lucas and his computers with, 'Luke, you switched off your targetting computer!'
That was some very nice work.

Yeah, the montage at the end was downright moving. I didn't even laugh even though that montage was quite funny.
I also liked how he isolated the "plot" of the reviews to bried segments at every third. Made the review much more cohesive. I'd say this is easily RedLetter's best review.

It's good and all, but how does a review take longer to watch than the original movie?

I think so, but only because I'm hoping George Lucas will watch it. More than anything else, I think GL was this review's target audience.

More than anything else, I think GL was this review's target audience. pfff, Lucas won't get out of his chair from which he drinks his coffee and monitors camera 1 and camera 2 while filming insipidly boring dialogue sequences where people just sit on couches long enough to view that monstrosity ;D He made an awesome point about the use of blue screens for everything. I may never be able to see movies the same way again as a result. He could not ruin the movies for me. I got 5 mins into Attack of the Clones before I gave up because it was so very insipidly written. Revenge of the Sith will remain unviewed.

Yeah, that camera 1 & 2 thing really surprised me. I had never noticed it, but now I won't be able to NOT see it.
If you haven't seen the third movie (don't blame you), you should definitely, definitely, definitely read the book. It's amazing and well-written. One of the best things I've read.

And how about that one static shot of Anakin walking into the chancellor's office to confront Mace WIndoo. I had never noticed just how bad that shot was before, now I can't unsee it.

More than anything else, I think GL was this review's target audience. Yeah, that's just what I was thinking. There was something less funny and more aggressive in this one. Like it was his last chance to explain to Lucas what he did wrong. I'm sure he hasn't, but I do hope Lucas sees the video. And the camera 1 / camera 2 / couch thing blew my mind. Can't believe I never noticed it.

Can't believe I never noticed it. I noticed it at some level because the non action scenes were where it really looked bad. I nearly groaned at the sheer lifelessness of the performances in general. Then I stopped watching never to return. Star Wars is dead to me. MAybe the books are good, but Star Wars has always been a movie medium to me and I have steadfastly avoided the books for that reason.

The original trilogy (formerly the Star Wars trilogy!) will always be awesome! And there is stuff to enjoy in all three prequels... well, one of them. As for the books - there are good ones!

Strangely, the video game adaptation of The Phantom Menace is really, really good!
