It's no "Extinction", that's for sure. Without giving anything away, all I could think of during the underwater scene was the following: "I CAN HOLD MY BREATH A LOOOONG TIME!" Thank you, Mr. Nielsen. Anything else you'd like to add? "Don't call me Shirley," Right then. Oh, I have just GOT to comment on this line as well: "It's a trap!" So the characters walk RIGHT on in to the room ANYWAY. I know movies require you to suspend disbelief-- especially horror flicks-- but I mentally checked out after that. And how are undead quiet like ninjas? Seriously? This movie might make a passable rental, but it's not that exciting to watch in 3D. Save your cash. The prospect of going to a drag queen show with my friends next month was more interesting. And I don't usually go to those. Edit: I don't know why the hell I keep confusing the "Afterlife" and "Extinction" titles. Weird. Third one= good. Second one= not as much.

Wait, is Leslie Nielsen in this movie?

LOL no, sorry. It would have been vastly improved if he had been. I was simply quoting his infamous line in "Creepshow".

If only your warning had come sooner!!! Too late though, I already spent my money on it. It was definitely the weakest movie of the series. I enjoyed Resident Evil, really liked Resident Evil Apocalypse, and thought Resident Evil Extinction was an alright movie too, but for some reason this one just didn't click for me. I have this annoying habit too. Whenever I watch an underwater scene, at least for the first time, I have this strange inclination to hold my own breath while they're underwater, just to see if I can do it. (This really is true by the way. It might seem strange, and I really have no excuse or reason for it, but I actually do this). Not wanting to be rushed to the hospital, I gave in and started breathing again part way through and thought, wow. I was holding my breath sitting still in a movie theater, not expending any energy or oxygen, the fact that they could hold their breath that long while moving around and effectively going through their own held-in oxygen really impressed me. I'll agree with Battlechantress on the undead/ninja thing too. Some of them things were stealthier than a ninja flying a stealth bomber on national stealth day. (Oh, and the ninja's name is Stealthy McSteltherson). Again, I'm actually usually better at the whole suspension of disbelief thing then most of my friends, and can watch and find something to enjoy about a lot of movies that they guffaw at, but I had a difficult time with this one, and I went in really wanting to like it. Like Battlechantress said, if you haven't gone to see it yet, you might be better off waiting to rent this one.

Oh and you saw that big sack-on-a-head guy too. Yeah, when he's able to sneak around and not attract attention that *really* makes my brain go to Snarkyland. I swear they just made that movie to justify whatever "Resident Evil 5" slop is coming down the pike. The question is, why?

While I thought Resident Evil 5 was a decent enough action game, not necessarily a great Resident Evil game, it did feel like this movie was made more to pander to the fans of that game than anything else, which is a shame. Up until now, I thought they had done a fairly good job of taking the Resident Evil series and turning it into something fun and interesting that worked on the big screen. It's difficult to make a good video game move (See the history of video game movies, and tell me how many have been any good. I still cringe horribly every time I remember that there was in fact a Super Mario Bros Movie... Shudder).
I think trying to tie it too much into Resident Evil 5 (Up to and including the point that Jill is running around with long blond hair in a ponytail at the end) ultimately hurt the movie a lot. There are a lot of people in the video game community who have been extremely down on the Resident Evil movies for not conforming more to the games, and I honestly think that this was an attempt to satisfy and quell their issues.
As far as Sack-Man, yeah. I thought that it was a bit ridiculous that nobody really seemed to notice the twelve foot giant with a sack on his head and an axe the size of a small sports utility vehicle until he was right on top of them. Like Jill and her new hair, that guy was right out of the video game as well.

I was a BIG Resident Evil fan back in the day, primarily because RE2 scared the living shit out of me and I was amazed that a game could do that. I remember being all excited when the movie came out, and really, really confused when it was almost nothing like the first game ( maybe that was for the best, though). I took a liking to it, though. The Hive was actually a pretty clever location, and the music was really creepy. The movies have all been guilty pleasures. I'll probably still watch this new one, though I might wait for the DVD.

It's really not worth shelling out the extra cash to see it in 3D. "Coraline"? Yes. "Avatar" (a.k.a. "Dancing With Smurfs")? Maybe. This and "Beowulf"? Hell no. The fight scenes weren't all that great, for one thing. About the only thing that it showed you over and over again is how the projectiles look in 3D in slow- mo. Whoop- de- shit.
Oh, and the new "Saw" movie is supposed to be in 3D too. Don't bother. It looks about as dumb as the "Final Destination" movies (especially the last one). Except you get to see extra gory dismemberment! Whatever.
I swear, 3D is Hollywood's new way of justifying their efforts to push out stupid movie projects without decent plots that would never see the light of day otherwise. Who wants to bet the next "Transformers" abomination is gonna be in 3D too?
(Sorry, it's uh, "that time" again for me. I hate being female. I'll go try to hunt down some chocolate and peanuts and shut up now.)

Aw, I loved Avatar in 3D. It's probably one of the best movie experiences I've ever had!
Final Destination, though...I don't know. My sister and I LOVED those movies in the beginning. We owned the first two DVDs and saw the third one in theaters. She went and saw the fourth one with her boyfriend and told me it was sad, sad stuff. How far that clever premise has fallen. And Saw...I think they should have stopped with the first one. It was a damn good indie horror movie, and it had Cary Elwes in it.
This whole 3D fad is definitely annoying. The only other movie besides Avatar that I've heard was worth the extra money was How To Train Your Dragon. But that's one movie in the year since Avatar was released and the dozens of movies that have tried it. Kind of unfortunate and sad what Hollywood had done lately. xD
