I just finished my 4th play-through of this game and I find the best part to be the characters in your party. I'm am not familiar with the novels or comic books but it is on my to-do list. I of course want all of the original usable characters to return from ME1 and ME2 but I I also wouldn't mind some non-usable characters to be allowed on the Normandy such as...
Aria - her badass attitude and biotics would be pretty sweet The Patriarch (if not dead) - could tag along with Aria i guess Vido Santiago (if not dead) - only if Zaeed agrees or is dead Maelon (if not dead) - could team up with Mordin Wreav Urdnot - Wrex's bro could do some damage Kal' Reegar - it's time for another quarian Lantar Sidonis (if not dead) - only if Garrus agrees or is dead Captain Anderson - why not? Doctor Chakwas - could have some healing abilties or something Kolyat Krios - could replace Thane or join him on the Normandy Harkin / "Fade" ? A batarian with an armored varren would be cool Vorcha or Volus? lol
idk, I really want a battalion on my ship lol. As long as you get to know them all similar to ME2 loyalty missions

I expect to see Kolyat & Liara. Maaaaybe Kal'reegar, but I think he'll mainly have a cameo, since you could get him killed on the sunlight planet. The rest of your list seems HIGHLY unlikely.

A lot of these people can die on top of being minor Characters. Aria has a significant role in the latest book and could maybe be worked in. I don't know how popular this approach is but I hate Kolyat and sincerely hope he is NOT in the next game at all. For some reason he rubbed me the wrong way on sight.
I would love to see Kal'Reeger if only because Adam Baldwin rocks. Chakwas, sure. She is an easy fix either way. Love to see Anderson in action, but him on the Normandy does not seem likely.
Why would Harkin want any thing to do with you? Why would we want to break him out of jail? Afterall if you do Garrus' loyalty mission "the Fade" is shut down and arrested.
Most of the same applies to Santiago with the addition of why would Shepard or Zaeed let him live? Paragon or renegade Santiago is very distasteful.
Maelon is a tattered wreck of a man. I want him no where near my ship.
Never met Wreave. Wrex always lives in my game. In my cannon he may as well not exist.
If I missed anyone it is because they are too unimportant to mention.

Wrex needs to come back as well, he can't be cut out just because a handful of Renegade idiots killed him and some people didn't play the first game. Wreav really didn't have any of the snark, intelligence or badassery that made Wrex truly the best krogan character.
As for Anderson, I can definitely see him returning to the Normandy for the final game. His 'Oh, I'm too old...' excuse in Mass Effect 2 really p***ed me off. You just turned 50 man! Sam Fisher was kicking more ass than Shepard could ever hope to in Splinter Cell: Conviction and he was 55 years old! Not to mention that humans have an 80 year longer lifespan in the Mass Effect universe.

Matriarch Ayethia. Hell, she could've replaced at least half of my ME2 crew and I'd be happy with it.
I doubt Garrus will let Sidonis aboard the Normandy any time this century.

My bet is that we're not going to see any hanar, volus or elcor characters in the team. (Pity, because Blasto, the first hanar Spectre, would have been such a blast! I also suspect that Liara and Kaidan/Ashley may be back.

I would say Liara's a cert. She's the only squad member you can't kill, and the only reason she wouldn't come with Shepard during Mass Effect 2 was the Shadow Broker (thanks Shadow Broker ) but he's presumably getting killed off in DLC. I also want to see somebody on the crew with no mental problems and no dark and troubled past, just for the novelty of it.

I wouldn't mind Rachni helping against the Reapers either...

I'm pretty sure the Rachni will be around for ME3, but probably not on the front lines. The reason being that there are those who elected to kill the queen in ME1 (and that seems to be the default for ME2 if you didn't import a character, as I understand it).

Kal'Reegar, yes!! There isn't much more to say about that. He's Adam Baldwin, and I wouldn't complain about that as a crewmember. Needs moar male quarians.
(Of course, the game can't possibly fit everything the fans want--supporting characters with larger roles, the unseen genders, crewmembers of new species--into one game at the same time as giving us closure with existing characters. Somebody's going to be forgotten.)
Chakwas would be interesting as a playable character (maybe for a mini-mission like Joker's). I'd love to see her kick some butt (okay, and have nifty healing abilities). But I'm not really sure how they'd work that into the game.
Also, Matriarch Ayethia. She's the one with a krogan father, right? She better come back in ME3!

Matriarch Ayethia is my pick for the new Asari council member. But if they won't have her I would gladly have her on my ship.

I wonder if we're going to see female turians in ME3.
Come to mention that, I don't understand the absence. They could use the exact same models and just have female voice actors for them. It's not like anyone imagines female turians being curvaceous or anything like that.

...Good point. Hmm. I guess that points toward the theory that they do have something in mind that does require a different model.
lol hi Mr. Glow, I just read your "somebody without a dark and troubled past" post. Seconded! Maybe somebody without any rogue siblings/parents/progeny...

Characters with no baggage or emotional hangups in a Bioware game? Blasphemy!!

Characters with no baggage or emotional hangups in a Bioware game? Blasphemy!! I would make the addendum: Characters with no baggage or emotional hangups that require me to fly to the other end of the galaxy and fight space zombies. Or, at least a three character minimum. xD Kal'Reegar is who I'm hoping for. Hearing Adam Baldwin made me giggle like a grown man who shouldn't be giggling. Also, Garrus, and I'd like it if I could resolve things with Carth Kaiden so he will keep speaking at me. Anyone else, I could take or leave. And for the record, why haven't they gotten Nathan Fillion or Alan Tudyk doing any of these voices?! If Halo ODST could get them all together for one game, why can't they do the same thing with ME3?! =D
