"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is getting remade... again. Why? 2010 has already been an abysmal year for movies (with one notable exception), so Hollywood seems to think that giving us a live- action "Smurfs" movie (I could not make that up if I tried), this probable monstrosity, yet another "Transformers" sequel (sorry, I just gagged), and I don't- even- really- want- to- know- what- else will suit us just fine in 2011! Oh, and then there's this lovely announcement: "Piranha 3D" Sequel In the WorksI was kind of dreading the butchering that Peter Jackson will likely do to "The Hobbit", but after seeing these two articles, I realized that might be all we have to look forward to.

They're remaking Thundercats as an anime-style show on cartoon network.
I can't say I'm not happy. XD
Sequels/tie-in movies make money and are probably easier to write and market. It's been being done for ages. If we're lucky the bad ones get lost in the mists of time.

Alan Tudyk's supposed to be in Transformers 3 as well. Browncoats everywhere are crying I'm really annoyed at the Spider-Man reboot as well. Spider-Man 3 was only out 3 years ago! And that new actor playing Peter just looks like a douche.

This Browncoat is just happy for an excuse to see that man on the big screen. But then, I saw G.I. Joe solely for Ray Park, so... my taste in movies is questionable.

Hmm. Speaking of Tudyk, when does the new V start again?

John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe? Yep, it sure looks that way. What, they couldn't get Robert Downey, Jr. for this? Cusack isn't the absolute worst choice for the role, but I really don't see him pulling it off.

I'm not exactly surprised by the Mutant Turtles remake, but... really, again? Didn't they just do this a few years ago? I watched it, too. It was... fine. I was a massive Turtles fan when I was a little boy. I lived and breathed the Ninja Turtles (or Hero Turtles as we called them in Europe) I like the live action movie they did in the 90's very much. --- I saw the trailer for that Piranha 3D film last week - it looks really dreadful. I love how the piranhas are wierd, mutant CGI monster things, and thus ten times less frightenening than actual piranhas. But then again..... Christopher Lloyd is in it.... screaming wildly. I'll probably watch it!

Yeah, when it comes to TMNT, I think the original from the 90s is really the only decent version. And yeah, if I remember right, the last remake came out less than 5 years ago. I can't sit through stupid movies like "Piranha" while sober. I just get bitchy. I prefer being drunk and with friends so we can openly mock such movies, which of course means we can't go to theatres. Yeah, supposedly I can sit through a typical Will Farrell movie sober with friends so we can mock it, but I can't feel my IQ plummet when I watch him while inebriated, so it's just better that way.

Another potential bad remake coming our way: Hollywood decided to remake the perfectly good "Let the Right One In" as... "Let Me In". (It should be noted that the first movie only came out two years ago.) Oh, this version is being directed by the same idiot that brought us "Cloverfield". But hey, it won't have subtitles, just shitty acting! /facepalm

Horror remakes are the PITS, man. The PITS of the EARTH.
I hate horror remakes. I love horror movies.
I didn't even particularly like that 'Dawn of the Dead' remake, compared to the original.
God-damn horror remakes, man. I don't know why US and UK audiences are so reluctant to read subtitles.

Speaking of PITS, Brad Pitt is apparently wanted to play John Marston in a possible Red Dead Redemption movie. I'd say the likelihood of him taking the parts is even smaller than the likelihood of the movie actually being made, but seriously? He just seems like a really bad choice to me.

I liked the Dawn of the Dead remake, though I actually saw it before the original (which is absolutely amaaaazing). But the best remake I've ever seen was THE DEPARTED. It's one of my favorite movies.
And Brad Pitt could do a good job as J.M. He wouldn't be my first choice, but heck, he's already played Jesse James. xD

I'm extremely thankful that Hollywood has not been brave enough to try remaking "Audition". Of course, I still cringe at the sight of acupuncture needles as it is thanks to that movie.
I try to avoid movie remakes in general, not just horror movies. I honestly can't think of a good remake at the moment. I'm sure there's at least one out there, but nothing comes to mind. Anyone?

I watched AUDITION with my sister one night, and we were both just...I don't know. Somewhere between disgust and intrigue is appropriate, I think. We still discuss the ending every now and then. There are very few remakes that turn out good. THE DEPARTED would be at the top, but there are others. THE THING, THE CRAZIES, 3:10 TO YUMA, THE RING, OCEAN'S ELEVEN, THE FLY, SCARFACE. And, technically, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS is a remake of YOJIMBO by Akira Kurosawa.

I forgot about "The Fly" being a remake. Definite improvement, there.
