See, I was much more easy-going when it came to Indy 4, mostly because it drew on a lot of myth and circumstance as much as the first three movies did. There are, in fact, crystal skulls that do really exist, and they're made out of a form of silicon that almost make them out to be ancient hard-drives. The legend behind them was that if you get all five (six? seven?) together, then you'd be able to do...something crazy, I guess.
Additionally, it also plays off of the "intervention theory" postulated in the book Chariots of the Gods, and the epicenter of that theory is in Peru and involves the Nazca lines, which appear in the film and are supposedly artworks for aliens to see since you have to be in the air to see them, and ancient South Americans certainly didn't have the power of flight yet.
So, it makes sense in a crazy sort of way. Personally, I liked Indy 4, though it did some stupid shit before the credits rolled. Not even counting the nuke/fridge incident, I didn't like how the violence had been toned down considerably. We went from heads exploding to carnivorous ants and...swordfights...yeah, that was my least favorite part.
Still, I like it better than Temple of Doom. =)

Oooh, I much prefer Temple of Doom! I know the screaming-girl, cute-kid sidekicks are annoying, but I like the setting and the plot, and the action sequences (the bridge, the mine-cart chase, the plane) are amazing.
I think I was always bound to have issues with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (that title is too long, too) because I really don't liek Shia LaBoueff.

I never could decide which of the first two Indy movies were better. All I know is that they're both better than the last two movies.

The Last Crusade was always my favourite, I mean, Sean Connery takes out the Luftwaffe with an umbrella! What more do you need from a film?

Yeah! The Last Crusade was my favorite by far. That was another disappointment I had with the fourth movie, that they couldn't convince Connery to come out of retirement for even a cameo. xD

Last Crusade is easily my favourite too. I felt Connerey and Ford made such a good team, had great dialogue together, and the stunts were great again. And it has a neat ending, and Nazis. Indy should always be fighting Nazis.

I must be old fashioned, but the first Indiana movie will always be my favourite. It just struck the right balance for me, and has the best fight scene EVER. I'm at work so I can't post a youtube clip of it, but I'm sure you know the one I mean. Guns win, every time.

Here you go. Fun fact I'm sure everyone knows about that scene: Harrison Ford was so ill from ... I'm not sure what, but I don't feel like looking it up... that he begged off doing yet another choreographed fight that day and they took pity on him. It worked very well, I think.

Food poisoning. Apparently the only person who did not get sick on that set was Spielberg who obsessively brought his own food. Ford looked like hell, which only made that scene work all the more.

Some sources it was the flu, others say it was dysentery.

Maybe it was a horrible new combination of the two.

Awesome xD
In fairness, Indy does uncover way more lost treasures than your average archeologist. It's just that he destroys them on his way out.
