Apparently, 2morrow will be a great day for Bioware fans, according to BioWare's twitter feed. Kotaku seems to think it will be the official Dragon Age 2 announcement, but who knows? I don't =(

Oooh! I hope it's something to do with ME2 but I'll keep a lid on, just in case!

They did just release some new DLC content - some armor and a new sniper rifle. I only noticed when I checked facebook yesterday for the first time in weeks... most comments were mixed - happy for more content, pissed Bioware/EA are charging 160 points for it.
I'm hoping this is better news than that.

The armor looks cool but for gods sake don't get it for the rifle. I got the incisor rifle with the collectors edition. What a piece of junk.

I'm very pleased that we won't be using the same character as DA:O. That story was completely self-contained - the hero falls in love (maybe) and saves the world, and maybe even heroically dies. You don't want a sequel to that. It was all about that one hero - The Warden. I'd always assumed and hoped the sequel would be a new character.
I rather hope they will do it like the Elder Scrolls series and tell an unconnected story set in say, Orlais or Antiva. (Antiva would be awesome, huh?)
This 'new engine new graphics' talk gives a LOT of credance to your 'DA:O is a delayed Xbox title' theory, eh Knightfall?
--
As for the 'Hawke' idea... hmm. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to them making the protagonist a named, predetermined character... after all the first one was called 'Origins' so this should have a different way to open.
But... that's very, very reminiscent of Mass Effect. I really don't want this game to be a ME2 clone. DA:O (whilst having plenty of faults of its own) seemed to make up for all of the compaints I had against Mass Effect 2. I don't want DA2 to just go with the 'sucessful formula' and lose everything that made its predecessor great.
---
How about this business of nthe game taking place over a decade? Fable??
I don't know what to think about that. Seems like Bioware are really going for 'new ideas' these days.

I think this all but confirms my crazy-ass theory. They seem to be doing everything they can to ignore the last game this time around.
My main problems with this sequel are:
1) I really enjoyed my playthrough on DA:O, and I was really excited about revisiting the story I had kinda etched out. But I can deal with a new story/character...I guess. I wish they would have told us that before Awakening came out.
2) I don't like "the Warden" being cornered into having an identity. I loved DA:O so much because your character could be so unique in a lot of ways (story-wise). Calling the character "Hawke," s/he will be just another Shepard. That character won't fully belong to you. Not to even mention the fact that you have to play as a human.
3) It hasn't been said yet (I don't think), but I 100% disagree with having the main character voiced, as it seems they're moving toward. I would hate that. I could deal with everything else they change, just not that. Pleeaaaase not that! ><

I won't lie I'm completely fine with a named Character and being human and if Hawke has a voice so be it.

One of my favourite things about DA: O was, that to an extent, I made my character. With Mass Effect and this, it was more like BioWare made my character for me. I mean, Aeducan Aeducan, lost prince of Orzammar was all kinds of awesome, John Hawke, on the other hand...
That being said, I still have a little fuel in my BioWare faith engine, albeit not as much as before Mass Effect 2 was released. I'm sure they will come through with the story at least. A few things they could do to improve DA2 in my eyes would be:
1) Stuff should actually change over the ten years, characters, including Hawke, should age. Other games really dropped the ball in that aspect. Yes I'm looking at you Ezio! 2) If Hawke has a voice, Sean Bean should voice the male version. Why? because he's awesome. 3) BioWare should cut it out with the DLC for this one.
PS: From the look of that concept art, Hawke is fighting Darkspawn. *hits nooooooooooo button*

The thing I liked about DA:O is that its sort of an old school RPG. Your pick a race/job and start doing stuff. The origin storys were cool, and all the other unique stuff as well. Hell I'd rather see one linear story and still have character customization. Every game has a set storyline, or 2 if its a good/evil type thing. DA:O could start and end completely differently every time.
As much as I hate seeing the Dynasty Warrior 10s and Super Duper Mage Street Fighter Alpha Omega Extrema Deluxe Edition 5000s, I think I hate the "Lets 'innovate' the hell out of this until its more a tech demo then a game" attitude more.
Guess what I'm trying to say is I like the Origins formula. It was cool, and made the game feel fresh after several plays. Yeah the story wasn't that original, but some times I need some hack and slash RPGing with wizards and dwarfs and shit.
Blizzard sold out hard BioWare is in the process of selling out ..There's always Bethesda... (just noticed they all start with a B. coincidence, or conspiracy?)

I think the developers love to name their studio starting with a "B'. That's all I can think of.
Well, I do admit I love the old school gameplay, especially an RPG, but I just don't any opinions about this sudden change in gameplay, I'm more sitting on the fence so far on this.
If they have a really nice female VO, I would think about it again.

I think when your RPG protagonist is voiced, the quality of the VO actors make a big difference. If it weren't for Jennifer Hale's awesome performance, I would never have gotten sucked into Mass Effect.
So they're taking an awful risk, Vader.
