Hi all,
Doing the expected thing, and waving madly. I'm more of a fan fiction reader than a writer, but I'm happy to find these forums and wallow in lots of Mass Effect goodness.
;D

Welcome! Glad to see another friendly aussie face here! I'm almost started to feel left out with these yanks and brits. Enjoy your stay Hey , I may not be an aussie, but as a Canadian I am at least from "one of the colonies". Does that count?

Haha, thanks again all. Hey, here's an interesting thing I heard the other day: If you're unsure if the person you're speaking to is from the USA or Canada, always ask them if they're from the Canada. It doesn't bother the yank as much and avoids enraging the Canadian. Discuss.

It doesn't bother the yank as much and avoids enraging the Canadian. Discuss. I provide tech support for americans, they ask me what state I am from all the time. When I tell them, i get everything from "Oh I hear it is beautiful up there" to " so you have really cold winters up there right?" To "Canada, how the hell are you supposed to help me? You are on the edge of nowhere." ( I only got that last one once). Apparently I say "aboot", though I have listened carefully to myself and have never heard it. ;D

Hi new members'n stuff!
This US/Canada confusion makes a good case for ID cards, I say!
I have some Canadian relatives and I've never noticed the "aboot" thing before, it sounds a lot more scottish than canadian really. aye, thars no 'aggis aboot! One thing I do notice is than my relatives live up to the national stereotype of saying "eh" at the end of almost every sentence.

I've always wondered where this 'aboot' nonsense came from! I've never once heard a Canadian actually say it like that.
You're right, Glow, it does sound Scottish.

It's the french Canadian accent. And no I don't have one since my one useful french phrase translates as "I do not speak french, do you speak English?" So I would expect english speakers from Quebec and parts of southern Ontario have it.
