www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=18111Just a short article on OXM that says Mass Effect 3 will have richer RPG elements than the second game. I approve of this. While Mass Effect 2 is a great game, I missed a lot of the features from the original game. A few changes/improvments I'd like to see are: 1. Bring back inventories- While the removal of the inventory system and being able to equip squad members with armour saved time and made the game smoother, it really lessened the customisation aspect of the game for me. 2. All squad members should wear armour- This really got on my nerves. Miranda could wear cling film and take the same amount of damage as Garrus or Zaeed, who wear full suits of armour. 3. No paragon/renegade points from talking to your crew- This is a minor concern but it niggled me, saying you didn't like Jacob's fruit salad or whatever should not net you as many renegade points as shooting a man in the head. 4. The heat sink system- I think the best thing to do would be to reach a middle ground between both systems, guns that eject heat slowly, a la Mass Effect 1, but can be ejected at will with a tap of X like Mass Effect 2. 5. The skill system- This was the aspect that felt dumbed down too much. For me, Mass Effect 1's 12 bar skill system got it right. I'd love to see a return to this, as well as giving squaddies bigger skill trees, akin to the player classes like in Mass Effect 1. 6. Michael Ironside should voice a Krogan- If we can't have Wrex back for the final battle, then who better to voice the token Krogan squaddie than America's gruffest spy?

On inventory and armor, I agree...to a point.
The squad armor was dumped from what I heard due to difficulties re-skinning the non human crew in the engine for armor. I'd like them to fix that if possible, but I would like as few glitches as possible. You may have noticed that there was only one character model each for human male and human female. They were all genetic twins save for the cosmetic stuff. I think we can blame this mainly on engine limitations.
I like the pared down inventory. Each gun actually behaves different, feels different to use. All those 200+ guns in ME1 handled exactly the same.Boring. And the ability to haul around ridiculous amounts of gear without a pack horse is a sacred cow I would like to see shot dead. No one spends 5 minutes picking through the bodies of their dead enemies after a fight, that is unless one of them had a real sweet mod on their weapon. This was modelled nicely. I would accept SOME inventory, but no return to the mess ME1 had thank you.
Bioware has tweaked the conversation system with every release since Balders Gate. I am certain that tradition will not change. But agree that in MOST cases there should be no paragon/renegade points for being snippy with crew. There are a couple of instances in ME2 where it would have been weird not to like telling legion and Tali to stay out of your way or be ground under your heel. If THAT is not renegade then what is?
Your right the current heat sink system is completely lore breaking and in some respects stupid. Next!! ;D
I want more skills, but I was not really impressed with ME1's "skill tree". There was too much overlap and insufficient gain in spending points, I would rather have a nice balance between ME1's and ME2's skill trees.
I want more RPG elements in my RPGs but the "role playing" in ME was always in the conversation system and multiple paths. In both games there was only really one way to solve a quest-shoot it. It was just a matter of whether you said sorry afterwards that was your different path. That is the one big item on my wish list. Truely different ways to solve a quest. Something ME1 only got right on Noveria and ME2 lost altogether.

The heat sink thing didn't really bother me, yeah it shattered the lore but so did the Tali/Garrus romances. And no one complained about those, except me, vigorously.
And I though ME2's FPS approach was fun. Yeah, it was linear, but it was fun as all hell. I kind of wish they'd cut out some of the "Look what I found!" sequences and have more shooting goodness. There's something about the ME2 system I just loved.
Also, I hope to god they ditch planet scanning. I hate it. I absolutely hate it to death.
The skills in ME2 were more useful then the skills in ME1. As long as they are 12 relevant skills its fine with me.
Also, no Wrex in the final battle? LAME!!!!

RPG elements aren't just story and dialogue. An RPG's thickness has mostly to do with its statistical system, and I'm quite glad that they plan to bring it back in ME3.
As for your points:
1. Slightly agree. I would like to see the return of a decent inventory system, but not if it's as much of a pain in the ass as ME1.
2. Totally agree. The lack of armor on Thane, Miranda, and Jack was laughable.
3. Indifferent. It never really bothered me all that much.
4. Very much agree. Middle ground is the best way to go on this issue. Just make it to where the heat sink can cool down on its own, but if you want it to cool down quicker, you can tap the X button at the cost of resource.
5. Totally agree.
6. Agree to the tenth power! I've always wanted Mike Ironside to voice a krogan myself.

I'm immensely glad about the 'richer RPG elements'. That's exactly what ME2 needed.
I have to agree with almost everything Glow said, although I don't know who Michael Ironside is!
Also a very good point about the lack of armour on Miranda, Jack and Thane. But it didn't bother me at all, honestly. I'm happy to suspend disbelief on that one. They have good shields, and stuff.
What I would like, more than anything in ME3... is a good ending, a proper inventory and level-up system, more akin to ME1... and good closure on the awkwardly hanging-in-the-air romance stoeries from the first game.
And a good villain would be nice. A big army of Reapers or something. ME2 needed a strong villain.

I've agree to the above but there's one more thing I wish Bioware would impliment as a rpg...
More exploration.
I hate to admit but I'm starting to miss the mako a bit when it comes to exploration. The planet is all cut and paste at times to the point it's really jarring but at least there's an element to explore a bit. In ME2 not so much. It's feels more like a level than an actual area to walk around and seeing things. The city hubs are nice but they kinda feel small, not grand. Especially the citadel, there are times I wish I can walk around to see the presidium or the old wards section but I'm kinda stuck in the smaller part of the Zekera Wards.
While we're at it, the sub-missions. In ME1, I feel compelled to do the sub-missions due to the interaction with the npcs that in involved in the missions (eg: Toombs, the poor science mook, etc, etc.) or the reaction from your crew in the party. It kinda made me felt I've made an impact. I can't be stuff to do the N7 missions in ME2 due to the fact it kinda felt hallowed without the reactions from the crew members or any sort of interaction with the npc... minus the shoot-on-sight basis.
And also my minor complaint... it needs turian women. I would love to see Garrus' reaction to see his old flame... or at least a awkward meeting with his dad if you romance Garrus.

LOL "Miranda could be wearing cling film"...so true! I took Jack with me to that space station where the AI has gone crazy, and had to laugh when she was wearing a closed helmet but no more clothes than usual.
It would be awesome to see turian women, as well as a reunion with Wrex, the rachni--basically everybody we didn't see in ME2 but could really help in the final battle. Eek I just can't wait!

I was really surprised there were no turian women in ME2. I think they lock them away in a warehouse somewhere.
Nemonus, did you know there is a reunion with Wrex in ME2? Provided you have a save file who didn't kill him, that is.

lol! Just like they lock their krogan women under sheets.
Oh, you're right--I totally phrased that wrong. I did know Wrex shows up in ME2, although I haven't actually seen him yet, since the default is to kill him. I'm working through with my imported Shep, so will get there eventually.
