Just thought I'd post this from the official forums.
Save Game Import
* Upon starting a new game from the main menu, players can import a character save from Mass Effect 1
* The Player chooses which character to bring in. Bringing in more than one character is possible, this will create a second or additional profile(s), just like in Mass Effect 1.
* For Xbox 360 players need to be signed into your profile that you used to play through Mass Effect 1.
* On PC players will select the .MassEffectSave files to import.
* The profile and save data must be present on the hard drive and not an MU.
* There is a limit of 11 end-of-game saves that can be imported into ME2. This means that if the player was to complete ME1 12 times, regardless of the number of unique playthroughs used, the 12th save will not be available for import, but saves 1 through 11 will be available.
The last one really pisses me off. I think I j=used the default Shepards a few times before making the two I use now, so I'm liklely not gonna be able to use the Saves where my two Shepards were at level 60. Why couldn't they make it so that the game can import the last eleven saves, not the first?

Well, I only have three playthroughs, so that won't really be a problem for me.
The thing I'm curious about is that I used the same Shepard to beat the game twice. Did renegade the first time and paragon the second time. So will she be aligned to the last playthrough, or at all?

Good, the XBox version seems pretty easy. I'm trying to get my FemShep up to level 60 now. I've already got much of the crew outfitted with MSWR X's, Colossus armor and level X mods. My previous XBox fried and I lost my MaleShep playthrough. Only one more month!

If I recall correctly from the Mass Effect LJ site, it will be the last playthrough for that character.

You can have multiple saves for the same character, so every time you beat the game with the same character, It uses one of the 11 end game saves. So you can pick any completed playthrough and you're decisions and paragon/renegade points you made in that playthrough will carry through to ME2.
Oh and New Game+ is back in.

Any playthrough? That's great as it gives you some variety to pick from.

Really? New Game plus came back *sigh*
I was hoping an open ended sort of thing after you get rid of the big bad boss in ME2. Well, as long they know what they are doing, it's not a biggie. For me anyways.
As for the limited end game saves, I can see how annoying it is. Fortunately for me, I'm not that crazy to play like 11 playthroughs on 1 character.

You can free roam if you survive, but if you want, you can do NG+ too.

You don't get to keep your level or alignments in ME2 =( You're back to level 0 again.

Thankfully, they seem to have removed the eleven playthrough limit now, any save you can see on the existing careers bit of new game on ME1 can be carried through.

This was handled very nicely, I think. I went for my first ever Shepard, which is making me feel pretty damn nostalgic.
Also I changed her eyebrows and gave her a new (darker and grittier!) short hairdo.
I must say I was very impressed with being allowed to change her appearance - specifically the hair. That made me very happy - it's a feature I've always wanted to be in this game but was not expecting. It's the equivalent of ME2 showing up for the first date with flowers behind its back.

I wish I had done that in the first place. In my mind, I kept thinking that it was going to be a straight import, which is why I created a new one. Humbug. Have to play through that game again to get the achievement I would have gotten the first time around. =(

Dammit. When you import the save game, Meathead Shepard appears under "new custom appearance" so I assumed there was no way to actually change the appearance without losing my custom Shepard's face. I really should've checked this before I got 8 hours into the game.

Hmm... I must have did something wrong. I've couldn't find a way to change my ME1 Shepard appearance. I was about to give her a nice haircut but oh wells, this will do.
Still, on the second thoughts, I like the way she is. I don't think I'll change her.

It wouldn't allow me to change my imported characters face.... how'd you do that?
