Chapter One: Double Cross
The planet Eletania of the Hercules System is, at present time, unsettled. The dangers and costs of settling on a planet with such a toxic environment has deterred even the most ambitious of the galactic races. Some, however, think the entire ecosystem could be changed, but at a great cost. So, for now, the planet is home to only a few small, sealed off stations spread across the planet, most likely home to fugitive gangs, or refugees from nearby systems.
On top of the planet's highest peak, Anchortop, is one of these stations. Inside, a small group of Batarians wait to buy a newly developed drug, Kerizite. The drug was promised to give the user a sensation like no other, while having limited dangerous side effects. The Batarians hoped to study the drug's properties, so that they might be able to reproduce it and sell it themselves, for a lower cost. They had first attempted to steal the ingredients by sending a spy to work for the drugs producer, Dyminac, but they lost contact quite some time ago. So they had to resort to purchasing it from the company. This was all behind closed doors. Dyminac could never publicly say they developed the drug. They're public facade was that they developed Medical supplies and other pharmaceutical drugs. This is not a complete lie however, as they do produce different products with healing capabilities, and are fastly become one of the most popular Medicine producers in Citadel space. Their true focus, however, is the new drug, Kerizite. They have revealed the drug to only a handful of gangs and underground organizations, but the Batarians are the first they've gone into dealings with.
The station itself was very small, with one room and a decontamination chamber at the entrance. In the room was two sets of bunks, a small kitchen, a square table, and a computer hooked up to outside cameras, for surveillance. One of the Batarians sat at the moniter, while the others sat at the table, waiting impatienly. They sate in silence for many hours, just waiting, despite their annoyance that they dealers were taking so long. Soon, the Batarian at the moniter pipped up.
"They're here, boss. Three of em, a human, a turien, and a krogan, unarmed it seems. Carrying some large box. Must be the drugs , I 'spect."
"Of coarse it is, you oaf," The leader replied, "Now let em in!"
After passing through the decompression chamber, the three were in the station. The turien and krogan put the box on the ground beside the table, and the human sat down at the table, across from the leader Batarian. None of them said a word. The human began digging something out of a compartment on his space suit, while constantly staring at the leader batarian. He had medium-length brown hair, and had a strong, but somewhat friendly face.
"Your late, " The leader said, finally tired of the constant staring.
The human did not reply, however. He took out a cigarette, sat back, and continued his gaze. He took a long hit of the cigarette, and put on a wry smirk. This continued for quite sometime, unnerving the Batarians quite a bit. The human finally flicked his cigarette away, and broke the stare, and studied the small station.
"Nice place you got here...Grejik, is it?" the human finally said, with a very subtle sarcastic tone.
"Yes, is it. Now have you got the drugs?"
"Well what do you think is in that grand-fucking crate? Hahahaha" The human's laugh was very overly joyful, but seemed honest. "However...you will not be buying any drugs from us today."
"What?!," Grejik replied, now very angry. "What is this about, huh?"
"I express my deepest regret and sorrow," the human said, with the same sarcastic tone and smirk. " You see, it has to do with why we chose to deal with you. Didn't you wonder why you are the first people we agree'd to sell the drug to?"
The Batarians didn't say anything, they just exchanged worried looks with each other.
"We thought you people, were good, honest Batarians, who would never do anything to jeopordize yourselves or put yourselves in a dangerous position.. Hahahaha," The human continued, heavily implying the Batarians had screwed up. " But then...then we found your friend....Open the box Harx."
The Krogan called Harx did as he was told. Inside the box, however, were not drugs. It contained the body of another Batarian, laying motionless, obliviously dead. The Batarian's recognized him as the person they sent to infiltrate Dyminac. They're expressions quickly became filled with shock and fear. Grejik turned to the human, stuttering with fear.
"W-w-w-who ar-r-re y-y-you?"
"Me? Hahaha" the human said as he stood up. "My name is Sarn Cordana. Nice to make your acquaintance."
The Batarian's eyes opened even wider and fear overtook them even more. They knew the name.
"Tell me something Grejik....did you think you were going to die today?"
Outside of the station, through the soflty falling snow, bright blue light could be seen flashing through frosted windows for a few moments. Then, they grew dark again.
