Wednesday is Daniel and my film night. We go to the cinema on the orange wednesday and watch a movie or 3d movie at the odeon. Lots of fun. I feel bad for never tellign anybody a review of the movies we see so here goes.
3D UP is all kinds of good. I felt that the movie was a little adult in some places for very young viewers but themes that most children can handle. However there is a death or two which I found disturbing as I always do for a childrens movie but UP is obviously trying to appeal to a wide age range and pulls this off magnificently.
The jokes are well thought out and executed even the sillier ones hit home every time. The story is compact and diverse taking you on a long ride of adventure and discovery without becoming stale, repetitive or leaving you to fend for yourself.
The animation is a perfect blend of quality and beauty as only Pixar can create. For the most part of the movie I didn't really notice the 3D because it wasn't needed so much but when it did kick in it made a BIG impression.

This weeks movie was
Harry brown
A disturbing thriller looking at the state of Britains council estate youths and those that live around them. The movie managed to give off a present and futuristic feel in the sense that what you are seeing is a very near future situation of present problems within society.
Visually the movie portrayed a constant feeling of dread through lighting and colours. The acting is superb from the smallest to the largest roles and entirely believable character design. (Though Cain and his friend at the beginning do ham the acting a little for about 5 minutes before suddenly kicking in)
The action scenes are to the point, freighteningly realistic and Cain in no way is ever made out to be some super hero but carries is fralties and weaknesses at every point. It really added to the feeling of struggle.
The movie does contain one scene in particular that not freightened but deeply upset Daniel and myself. I'm not going to ruin it but if you watch this movie be prepared for something worse than Itchy the Killer could create for you.
Overal I'd say the reason the movie managed to instill so many upsetting emotions was probably due to its less rather than more mentaility. It is not an over the top vigilante movie as the trailers may suggest its far more subdued, thoughtful and swift.
The 'hero' (if you'd like to call him that) is no couragous man. He's freightened as much as everybody else and neither pretends to be a good person.
Harry Brown was refreshing, frieghtening and provocative in one easy step. I'm now ranking it as my favourite movie all year, even better than District 9.
4.75 stars (it lost a .25 because I decided the ending dragged 2 minutes to long)
