Family Guy made an about-face from being completely lame the other day and managed to make me genuinely laugh for the first time in many, many episodes. This whole "Quantum Leap" theme they had going on turned out well. Hope they can, somehow, keep this up. xD

I like Family Guy - mainly the first three seasons though. I think it went downhill after that - relying way too much on congratulating itself with catchphrases and self-referencing - see, like the Robot Chicken thing there. It was funny though ('Those shows existed!').
Also more and more, I find Family Guy indulges too much in a sort of frat boy 'shock' humour - deliberately overusing racial stereotypes (for example) just to be 'shocking'. More and more, I find these attempts not at all shocking, but a little sickly and offensive. In the early days the daring jokes had a point to make. Now Seth is just showing off by telling black jokes.
I like American Dad much more, because its jokes are all tagetted at the political right and the Bush administration. I don't have to be on guard for stuff I don't like.
This is all a bit off topic. Certainly the earlier seasons are much better. But like the Simpsons, and like so many American comedy shows - I reeeeeally think Family Guy needs to stop now. The concept is exhausted and they're spoiling it.

Exactly. We just recently got ANOTHER Family Guy spin-off, called "The Cleveland Show." It's a terrible, terrible show that makes you wish Family Guy was on; it's the equivalent eating dirt and then trying to wash it out with sea water. Terrible stuff, didn't laugh once.
Family Guy has been the same way, where I just watch it and get depressed. Not only because the cartoon isn't funny, but that it's so damn popular at the same time. When stupid crap catches on to such a widespread level, I get sad, so sad.
American Dad, you're right, is funny though. Since the first few seasons of Family Guy, is this the funniest show that Seth MacFarlane has made. It's witty, random, and typically intelligent about whatever it's satirizing (if anything).
The Simpsons are great. Classic. The show's STILL funny when I manage to catch it these days. It might not be as clever as it once was back in the day (the days of Springfield Gorge and Duff Man) but it's still great. The movie was amazing, too.
Yes, I know what you're thinking! I've thought about this for a while! Shut it!
