Please tell me I'm in the right diamention for the love of badgers. This is really crazy and ballsy at the same time. ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/48579/Mark-Jacobs-Leaves-EA-BioWare-Mythic-MergeI've didn't expect to wake up to see this. I'm quite speechless, I don't know what to comment about this. This feels wierd and insane. (Please don't let it be the western version of Square and Enix merger, please for the love of dionyneus)

Well, looks like nightmares are recurring again.
Damn, seriously I've been thinking about joining with BioWare after graduation in 2 years but looks I'll stick to be an indie game designer from the looks of it...
There's no fucking way I'll have a leash on my neck!

I'm torn between joining with Bioware and going the indie route and having my own RPG studio in Melbourne, which is the hard way.
Help!

Having one's own RPG studio in Melbourne would be the best job ever.
(p.s. Tillian I just accidentally edited your post - so it might not be exactly as it was. Sorry about that - I am clearly an awful moderator!)

Having one's own RPG studio in Melbourne would be the best job ever. (p.s. Tillian I just accidentally edited your post - so it might not be exactly as it was. Sorry about that - I am clearly an awful moderator!) Let me guess, the nazi grammar inside of you kicked again? I guess that's what I get for cursing in German. (Bad translatsion at that.) Anyways having my very own RPG studio sounds good but there are setbacks when it comes to forming and keeping the studio afloat. Firstly I need at least my own small esemble of dark horsemen to work on the game. Yes a group of people. Not only for effiency but to cover ones back particularly I'm not specialist in coding and such. Secondly funding. You got put a lot of money in maintaining resources into the studio. I'm not particularly rich. Thirdly, experiance. I'm still quite shakey with my skills in regaurds to game design. Lastly, Australia. So far the Australian game industry consentrate on platformers from what I've last heard with the lectuer. RPGs atm are not their forte and also the fact the stupidity of the Australian Government funds the arts resources to the Film industry not the gamming. Why I've said it's stupid? Because most of the Aussie films are being made are full of shithouse. So yeah, can you see the hurdle there, eh? Not saying I'm going to give up, it's just that it requires a lot of brainpower and a good network to make this studio idea to work...

I think this merger is great news. Mythic's Warhammer Online was a wonderful game (WoW comparisons aside), and now that Bioware's jumping headlong into the MMO business as well, I can only imagine that this will work out well.
I hope, that is. =O

Well Mythic fans are happy and Bioware fans are kinda arguementive about in one of the forums. In my sortish neutral perspective, I think it's too early to judge, we have to wait and see...
Since history, Mergers tend to be troublesome. There's the clashing of philosiphies of the companies themselves and office drama. Even Square Enix have some issues themselves after the merger. (Sorry if I've sounded like I'm a idiocy babbling, my mind went blank as I've tried to think up some negative arguments about it, will discuss more of this later once my brain is working again.)
My only gripe about this, being a game designer, it means if I've ever decided to join BioWare, I know there's a good chance my creativity will be limited by the constrictions due to coperation beurracy. That's why Nobuo Uematsu and Sakaguchi quit Square Enix due to that. "The company gets bigger and it didn't feel like a community nowdays and the music I've create doesn't feel likes it's my own anymore" - Nobuo Uematsu
Anyways I'm still debating myself about making myself my own games studio based in Melbourne so I can help shelter us Aussie game developers who wanted to make RPGS -_-

I think setting up shop in Australia would be a great idea. Show the world that Aussies can make awesome games, too. (Save for whatever Pandemic Studios managed to accomplish there before getting snuffed out. xD)

Well... looks like I'll take another visit to the lectuers at RMIT for some advice then about it. I hope they can show me some direction or something, this sort of thing is like a needle in the hay stack.
I've recalled the RPG Shadowrun game on the SNES was made by Melbourne Studio a long time ago. One of the best RPGs ever made. Too bad nowdays their management has changed to more platformers.
