It's not mine, obviously, I can't draw for toffee, but this Alan Wake fan art is amazing. and really, really creepy! I especially like the contrast between the dark presence's whispy shadows, and Wake's lighter's glow. The whole light vs. dark thing is a major theme in the story, and it makes for some great art opportunities.

Very cool. I'm impressed.
Also it reminds me of the movie Tron.

I'm always impressed with people tackling 3D (I tried tinkering with Z-brush once, which resulted in epic fail ). Approximately how long did it take you so far to make this? And surely you could make a high polygon version on the side, right? That would be great to look at!

I would be impressed too, especially if they doing it for high end cgi clips. Believe or not, I'm pretty easy to squee when it comes to high end cgi clips, like a girl who see cupcakes. (Don't get me started on the DA2 trailer...)
As for the time it takes...hmm... 2-3 weeks, if it weren't for me being distracted by other assignments and projects (I've blame "White Rose"). I would have done it in a week if I weren't so... well, being a bludger.
To be fair, modeling the eyes socket, nose and lips took some effort. The real set back at the time was the secondary horns. I've had to delete the first set because I've accidentally screw up the mesh shape to the point of beyond repair. 2nd time was alright but it took me ages to snap the horns into the skull, that I've had to cut the face in half and mirror it to save time. Then I've found even more jarring errors in the mirror process, no thanks to my face being slightly asymmetrical, so I have to make drastic repairs in the middle section before I've got it right. Technically I've done the head but the body... ugh, that's another story. I need to catch up or I might even have to ask the professor to give me an extension, since there's no fucking way I'm going to cut corners and turn it into an ugly lump of mesh.
About Z brush, believe or not, even the professor admits that program is the most unfriendly and unforgiving, even beats AutoCAD in the sheer unforgiviness. I've did dabbled with Z-Brush in class a bit and I've do agree is hard, but it has potential. You know Garrus' head? I've suspected that they use z-Brush to model his head the whole time. Anyways, personally, I've prefer to use Sculptis. It looks easier and still powerful as z-brush. Also it's for free too. Only for PC sadly. Sorry mac lovers.
I was about to do a high polygon later on during the holidays after I've handed in my low polygon version, but after my struggle with the horns/head fringe, I might converted into a hi res model by via scluptis/z-brush instead.

Is there a particular problem with eyesockets? I've a friend who also started learning 3D (on her own, though), and was struggling to put the eyes in the head she was building. They did use Zbrush to model the heads of ME characters! Check out this cool interview here (skip to page four and five for Garrus' head). I've heard other people complain about Z-brush's steep learning curve and counter-intuitive toolbox, but I don't have an opinion on the matter for lack of wider experience.

Probably not when you get used to model the face. It's just that it's my first time to model the face. It would be probably be easier to model the eye socket if the tutorial vid I was using could be slightly a little more clearer with techniques. Otherwise, once you've got the hang of it, it's smooth sailing when it comes to the eye sockets. It's the nose and the lips you should be watching out, especially if you're going for a medium to hi res model.
I've haven't gone deep into z-brush yet, so I've reserve that judgment for now, but the reason why it's one of the most unforgiving programs mainly due to the fact that you have to back up your work in many versions, as a slight mistake or crash will cost the whole duration of your work, as it was easy to get it lost or screwed up.
I've saw the z-brush models for ME, especially with Garrus. That was fucking damn impressive! But they are professionals, so I'm not surprised. Still it's pretty cool to see the behind the scenes of ME2, especially the modeling stages. Also that explains why Garrus' face seem to be more refined than most generic turians in the game.

I really don't know what to say! These are all stunning...I'll say that!
Fantastic usage of color all around, subject matter, and your emphasis on scale through a majority of them. Just great. I don't know how you could've turned all of these out in a month and a half!
