Aww, loads have sites have had this demoed for them and the consensus seems to be, at least 4 months out from release, that it sucks ass.

My interest kind of waned when they showed off the special infected, too. You don't need them when you're doing vampires, it's completely the opposite of what makes them cool.
So good vampire games right now is basically just Bloodlines and Gabriel Knight 3 (and the vampires in that game are actually pretty naff.)

What about SotN and other Castlevania games? Before the modern reboot of course.

The pre-release atmosphere of this game is really weird.
It's out in just a few hours and instead of people being jazzed and excited, we've got a nice little review embargo, and the subreddit mostly consisting of streamers who lucked into early copies telling people not to get their hopes up and really defensive fanboys telling everyone else it's their fault for getting excited for a game.

Wow. Will companies never learn how to release video games?

I'm actually enjoying it a fair bit at the moment.
Combat was initially stiff, but it's becoming a little more enjoyable for me as I slowly unlock new abilities. I refuse to feed on anyone on my first playthrough so I frequently am running into enemies that can one or two shot me.
The writing's probably the best part of the game. After the tutorial I spent an hour or two just exploring the hospital your character's based in and getting to know the characters there. There's some sweet stuff like a patient who believes she's a vampire and a wounded soldier who indulges her because she doesn't treat him like a freak.
The game's a major case of the old Gameplay and Story Segregation, though. In the story bits I'm looking out for everyone, refusing to kill, and even treating the local gangsters. But whenever I go out into the streets I'm killing vampire hunters by the score.
I know Dontnod are a rookie studio, but more options for avoiding combat, via diplomacy or stealth, which isn't really a thing in this game, surprisingly, would be nice.

Okay guys. I've been playing so much of this game, and I can say, I love it. It's an enthralling period piece with freaking urban fantasy elements. Fuck yeah. It's right up Cali Alley®.
Of course the combat is a bit clunky and the enemy fighting styles get really predictable (as with most Souls style games). Still really satisfying to shoot a dude with the Webley .455 to stun him, then bite the fuck out of his neck and drink his blood like a moonshine shot. That's the vampire life, baby!

Really hope they do a sequel set during the Blitz.
Especially if they keep Reid as the protagonist. It'd be pretty funny if they made the only RPG series ever where you're pretty famous in the first game and completely unknown in the sequel.

Finally beat the game. I got the good ending because I didn't embrace any of the NPC's. Honestly I was surprised I didn't get the shittier endings considering that I fucked up Nurse Crane (by mesmerizing her, which turned out to be a shitty decision since she went bonkers, because Johnathon Reid sucks at mesmerizing people), I let Sean Hampton run rampant because I thought he'd do some good (he didn't, obviously, as he started a silly ass cult). The Docks were nearly cast into ruin, and it was easily the worst affected district in London in my playthrough (Whitechapel came at a close second. West End and Pembrooke were sanitized).
At any rate, I got the best ending, where Johnathon and Elizabeth travel the world searching for a cure, because I saved Dawson and Dr. Swansea with my blood. I even let the Irish vampire hunter dude (can't remember his name) go and spared him after the fight (I read you have to fight him later if you turn him into a vampire. Jeez). Final thoughts: The Good: - Great setting - Good music - Pretty good voice acting - Some neat combat elements - The Doctor and Public Health system was really cool - Plot had some interesting twists The not so good: - Combat was overall pretty clunky - The enemy variety could have used some tuning - Enemies got really predictable - What was the point of Johnathon and Elizabeth's love for eachother? - Story was good but not great - What's the point of vampire powers if you've got the friggin' Fire Axe? Seriously, the fully upgraded fire axe was pretty much the unofficial god mode of the game. Who needs blood disciplines when you have that monster?

The combatinformation this games really annoying me. How quickly the street vamps can kick my hungry ass coupled with the long loading times makes it super easy to bounce off.
Also what happened with Nurse Crane in my playthroufh feels grimly relevant, what with Brexit driving away skilled European nurses and all.
