So, we here in the Great White North have just had our Federal Election, and for the last few months the Campaign process has been rather vicious. Prime Minister Steven Harper has been leading the Conservative government in a manner that has been rapidly deteriorating into a dictatorship and Canadian morale has been rather... low. The last 9 years have been not good for our veterans who have risked their lives and given their all overseas and returned with PTSD and other combat-related injuries (including my own cousin who almost died in Afghanistan around 9 years ago and is now suffering PTSD and lingering physical injuries). The Conservatives in Canada (which are different from the American Conservatives, though I am not as familiar with the American version) and their followers / supporters have divided into factions, and a lot of them have been harassing and cyber-stalking various veterans suffering from PTSD and belittling them and in some really reprehensible cases, actually telling them to 'go kill themselves'.
Racism was getting worse, and sexism seems to be following a close second, and during the whole Election process, Harper's Conservative campaign seemed to be focusing the vast majority of their efforts on belittling and demeaning Justin Trudeau (Head of the Liberal Party) and insulting him and trying to tear apart his reputation with personal attacks, rather than actually properly campaigning and touting their own Conservative promises. I saw more back-biting against the Liberals from the Conservative camp than actual Conservative promises. Trudeau and the Liberals on the other hand were running a clean campaign and not resorting to the same insults and back-biting. They were actually talking about what they were intending to do with the government if elected, and making sound and reasonable offers and promises.
The Canadian People as a whole seemed to be ready for a change.
So in the most recent Election on Monday night, the Canadian People voted - and the Liberals won by a rather noticeable majority, defying a lot of expectations... considering that the pre-election running results seemed to be showing that none of the four parties had enough of a majority to really take a full hold, and it seemed like the end result would be a Minority government, rather than a firm Majority.
In the end however, the Maritime Provinces ended up being entirely in favor of the Liberal Party, with the Liberals winning every seat in Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland and New Brunswick, and the rest of Canada voted enough for the Liberals that it made all the difference in the world! I'm rather pleased with the results, and am very optimistic about our new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (whose father Pierre was Prime Minister twice - April 1968 to June 1979, and again from March 1980 to June 1984). Justin Trudeau seems to have a very good head on his shoulders and seems to be a very good man, and also seems to be honorable enough that I feel like the campaign promises he and his Party made will actually be fulfilled.
On the topic of our new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, I had a good laugh this morning when I saw an article about him regarding his ... shall we say, rather impressive physical appearance...

Now, I am married, but I can objectively say that Justin Trudeau is fairly attractive, and I find it amusing that this seems to be the prevailing opinion of the Twitter Storm - and some of the Tweets are absolutely hilarious!
One the whole, I am hoping that this new Liberal Government led by Justin Trudeau will bring about the changes Canada so desperately needs.
One last parting shot:
Okay, maybe one more:
