Lack of internet really, really helps. It's the world's biggest distraction. Dave Gorman said something along the lines of, 'It's the collected wisdom, knowledge, entertainment and thoughts of everyone who ever had a computer. It's impossible not to read it.'
I wrote most of my first ever story (a horrible, novel-length Red Dwarf fanfic) on a family holiday in Anglesey (Wales). I love that place. But it was extremely quiet and there was nothing there but fields, a beach, sheep and my pad of paper. And it was just a week of writing this story. Best holiday ever!

Agreed. Though, another thing that helps is a change of scenery, too, when ignoring the internet is impossible. Even taking my netbook downstairs does wonders. Managed to break the 140,000 word barrier on my story last night doing just that.

Nice Knight.
Unfortunately I can't get away from the net if I WANTED to... since now my network in the house has gone wireless and my laptop is designed to go wire... so yeah. Go go distractions!

That's why holidays do wonders. I mean, of course you can't always wait for vacation to do writing, but that's the relaxed, distractionless mindset one needs to create. (Gah, I wish I could take mine in Wales! Hehe. Buch that does sound like the best trip ever.)
"'It's the collected wisdom, knowledge, entertainment and thoughts of everyone who ever had a computer. It's impossible not to read it.'" LOL So true.
And Knight, wow, impressive.

Writing that made me want to go to Anglesey again... sigh! Seriously, that'd exactly what I need at the moment. But I can't get time or money at the moment.
EDIT: Good to see someone say something nice about Wales!

LOL!
Hey, I liked Wales. Admittedly, it was raining and crowded in Cardiff, but Hay-on-Wye is just about my favourite place evar.
