I know there's a thread in "Gaming" for the game version of "Walking Dead", but I was not sure if there was one for the TV show, so I thought I'd start one here... just in case. Linders and I got Netflix recently, and one of the awesome things about Netflix is the ability to stream shows without paying per show / paying per view. Apparently everyone else and their pet hyena knew this except me, so when my Dad showed me what Netflix was on his TV, I decided to get it. "The Walking Dead" was one show I'd had a mild interest in seeing but I could not justify buying the DVDs without knowing if I would like it enough to watch multiple times, so seeing it on Netflix fixed that problem for me. On to the point here... I actually really like "The Walking Dead" as a show! The actor who plays Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), is fantastic, and I really felt for him in the first few episodes after he gets out of the hospital and finds himself in a wrecked world struggling to come to grips with the change in the world, and not knowing where his wife and son are or if they're even alive. His emotional breakdown on the floor of his old house made me tear up a little... I was also a little surprised at the gore in a TV show (I know zombie movies are usually incredibly gory); I did not expect to see that much exposed guts on a TV show... not that I'm complaining, I'm just glad I started watching the show on an empty stomach... Now, as of this post, I've only made it as far as Season 1 Episode 4 (Vatos), and the end of the episode, when the Dead attack the refugee camp, the aftermath of that broke my heart... I don't normally end up bawling my eyes out for a TV show, but the superb acting chops of Laurie Holden and Emma Bell (Andrea and Amy) broke me down. The build-up of their relationship as sisters, and Andrea's protectiveness of Amy, just made the last scene at the camp after the attack all the more heartbreaking... I can't wait to see more; more review to come (possibly).

What do you think of Daryl? The coolest redneck on tv since...ever?! Crossbows are back in style because of him! TBH I stopped watching after season 2, I plan to catch up though. I admit much like Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead is very different from it's source material ( the comics) and I love it. Only thing i got to warm you for, parts of season 2 and 3 are...dull. But if you get passed tha it's a good show and deffo worth the watch.

I like Daryl; he's not as much of a racist asshole as his brother was... Merle pissed me off. I mean, really; the world's ending, the majority of humanity has been zombified and you're going to let your own prejudices get in the way of survival? Come on, Merle was an ass. And Daryl's more focused on getting around safely and he actually tries to help the others.
I finished Season 1 today (I'm home sick from work for the week; damn issue that made me miss a month two summers ago is back with a vengeance) so I've been filling my day with Walking Dead... and I have to say, the S1 Finale made me cry hard... Andrea's story is so heartbreaking, and Dale's reaction to her wanting to stay behind at the CDC... I cried. Copious tears.

The fact that Merle's actor played the titular character in "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" doesn't to wonders for his likability either, Lily...

(Spoilers) I was glad when Andrea found the happiness she deserved with Phillip in Season 3. That was sweet, yeah, but the friendship between him & Rick is pretty inspiring too. It's too bad Shane is busy sulking.

The fact that Merle's actor played the titular character in "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" doesn't to wonders for his likability either, Lily... The whole episode while Merle was shooting off his racist / sexist mouth, I kept wishing T-Dog or Andrea would smack him down... He didn't necessarily deserve what happened to him in the end, but... he was an ass. And as for Daryl, I started off thinking he was just going to be a slightly more developed version of Merle, but Daryl seems pretty reasonable... a tad hot-headed, but at least he doesn't let his prejudices get in the way. It was clear in one scene that he is a little racist, since he made a disparaging comment to Glenn about Asians, but he still gave his all in guarding Glenn's back and going along with Glenn's plans... in fact, if he's racist at all, it doesn't really show much if at all... Plus, CROSSBOWS! I watched the first couple episodes of Season 2 yesterday while waiting for Linders to get home from work (and because seeing the guts and gore on "The Walking Dead" helps me accept that as painful as my current illness is, at least I'm not dead. Yet. *reluctant and painful lol*) and I have to say, I was so glad in the end of Season 1 when Dale was able to convince Andrea to leave the CDC before it went up in flames, but... then to see the confrontation where she called him out for saving her and made it clear that the only reason she left was so he would not die as well, and that she considers what he did to be selfish... I was weeping during her speech about how there's nothing left for her and how all she wants is to end it all, but I see both sides of it. I fully understand where she's coming from, that she wanted to die but was unwilling to condemn Dale to the same fate; but I also understand Dale's side, and I really wish he'd said one very important point - "How would everyone else feel if Andrea died?" They would all miss her, and her death (any of their deaths) would break everyone's hearts... plus, it's clear he sees her as a surrogate daughter... the whole thing just broke my heart. I do hope she can find peace in life and live on without the crippling darkness in her heart... On to another topic... the last episode I watched ended with something very very bad happening to Carl, in front of Rick and Shane... and Sophia is missing and has not been found yet... is the show really getting rid of the children? I hope not... I have a doctor's appointment this morning so I have to wait before I can watch the next episode, but... damn! Those poor kids!

I wouldn't worry about them too much. What kind of show kills kids?

I wouldn't worry about them too much. What kind of show kills kids? Criminal Minds has done so, a fair few times...

They're all about psychos though. To the point where Mandy Patinkin just wanted out!

I'm not going to spoil anything....except this. ANYONE can be a target. Except Daryl...none fucks with Daryl.
Hell I believe if Walking Dead game Daryl linked up with Lee, he would've saved Lee and Clem, found a cure to the Zombie Virus and be all cool about it. Also he keeps quoting Boondock Saints.

Okay, I'm a bit further through Season 3, and I have to say, Daryl is becoming more and more my favorite character... I can't get over how my expectations of him have been thoroughly subverted! In Season 1, when Merle was lost, and someone said Daryl "was not going to be pleased", it was said somewhat ominously and I figured Daryl was just going to be another Merle... but as the episodes go on, Daryl proves more and more how opposite of Merle he really is. Daryl's genuine grief over the loss of Lori and T-Dog and Carol (expecially Carol) brings tears to my eyes, and his desperation to provide for the baby is so heartwarming - the look on his face as he was feeding the baby after he and Maggie found baby food said it all... Daryl is just made of awesome. And The Governor creeps me right the hell out... I just want to smack him... though I do harbor some mild hope that he's a good man, just misguided... but that hope is faint. And I love love love Michonne! She's awesome! The way she wields her katana is a beautiful and deadly dance... EDITED: to add new update: I just finished the episode where Daryl finds Carol, alive, and it reaffirmed my assessment that he's a great man... so heartwarming how he was carrying her to safety after he found her... I love Daryl. And Merle still disgusts me. EDITED again: The Governor - not a good guy at heart. Not simply misguided. I want him gone. *rage/hate against Governor*
